For the price, these J Bars are a good product, well made, and sturdy. They were easy to install - zero directions needed. I did use different straps that were a level up in quality than the ones that were in the box - see my pics. My car is garaged and while you can lower the bars when not in use, I uninstall them to save the padding from UV damage. ... show more

Great rack and the best customer service ever. Been using this rack since August 2022. Works great. I chose this for its carrying capacity and mounting platform. Other racks would not carry the weight of one of my boats. I replaced a few of the bolts so that I could Mont this on my truck's ladder rack. Other racks did not have mounting plates large enough to manage this. One part did break after about 10 months of use, but the vendor was stellar in communication and replacing the part that broke. They have done exactly what I needed them to. I purchased these a year ago and I've used them all year, for long period of time (multi-week road trip with 12 foot kayak in the rack), going high speeds for hours, and on rocky terrain. This rack had kept my kayak safe though all of that. It does get a bit tight and hard to open the rack if it's been closed for a long time. It's definitely got its flaws and is experience some wear. I tighten each rack once every 1-2 months just to make sure everything is secure. Overall, I'm very hallg with my purchase. I didn't want to spend double this price for the Thule rack system and I'm honestly fine with this Amazon version. I will use it until it breaks, I'm guessing I have another 1-3 years of life out of this system. It was easy to install and I like that it collapses if you want it to. ... show more

I bought this rack system in March of 2021 when we bought our 12' Wilderness Kayaks. I've used it heavily for 2 seasons and it has performed exceptionally well. It's easy to install and remove but I leave it on all season until it's time to replace it with the ski rack. The angle of the upright supports is adjustable and they fold down completely flat when not in use. The tension straps provided are more than sufficient to secure 2 12' kayaks to my Jeep Grand Cherokee without having to put additional lines to the bumpers to secure the boats. We've gone on 4+ hour drives with the kayaks in place and have never had a problem. The finish of them has held up very well. The hardware is Zinc coated so some of the areas are showing a very minor amount of rust. Those concerned can easily change out the provided hardware with stainless by going to your local hardware store for replacements. The black powder coat on the steel tube frames have held up nicely and even the foam pads are still in great shape. There's all kinds of racks you can buy but this one works well and is a great value. I highly recommend it. ... show more

Easy install. Also, the fold down feature makes it easy to pull into garage with kayaks off, as long as you remember to fold them down. I unloaded kayaks, forgot to fold them down, and pulled into my garage. The cross bar broke off my Buick, but the kayak rack was unharmed!

Got these so I can take another person kayaking with me. Seems like good quality and was easy to install etc. haven’t tried it out yet but wanted to drive around with the rack to see if anything loosens up. So far so good!

First time writing a review for a purchased item on Amazon. This item is a great holder for kayak , HOWEVER the straps will not do much at all. Going anywhere above 10 mph with only 4 of these straps with 10 ft 34 pounds kayaks will not do. I drove behind the person to see how it would hold and the right one flew off the roof thankfully didn’t ruin my newly purchased kayak. I went and got heavy duty straps 8, 15 ft straps for better traction. As picture above I used 8 of those orange straps around both kayaks. ... show more

We installed these on the roof rack of our Highlander and had trouble with them coming loose due to vibration. We tightened them thrice during our 6-hour drive and were alarmed at how loose they became even after using a pliers tool to tighten them. We had to stop and get some locking washers and flat washers to remedy the situation. Additionally, the rubber support ripped during our first usage. I do not recommend this product. ... show more
