This is a well made, nicely finished and priced Kayak Rack kit. As configured out of the box, it may not work for thicker height crossbars on some truck racks because the 8mm carriage bolts supplied are too short (about 2-1/2 inches). I retro fitted mine with 5/16-18, 4 inch long carriage bolts (3-1/2 length would have worked too) to fit the crossbar (approx. 1-3/4 H, 2-3/4 W) on my Vevor branded adjustable height truck rack, which is thicker 'height-wise' than most car rooftop crossbars. The 8mm nuts inside the plastic T-handle wings can be pressed out and replaced with 5/16-18 nuts if you want to reuse them. 5/16-18 nuts are typically 1/2 inch across the flats and might be a little loose inside the T-wings, the 8mm nuts being a little wider across the flats, but a little silicon or glue should secure them. As a sidetone, I could not find any 8 mm carriage bolts locally that were long enough, thus the change. In summary, the ratcheting hook straps supplied work great and the other pull straps included make this a nicely supplied kit. ... show more

Yes, it does take some time to get these set up, but if you like to build IKEA furniture (I do at least) then this will be no problem. Took about an hour for set up. Once I got them on our Jeep Patriot, they worked like a dream. So happy to confidently cart my kayaks around to local spots!     • Tight fit on pickup rack
Although the mounting plates that clamshell over your vehicle’s existing rack bars are a bit thin, the overall quality of the racks themselves seems satisfactory. It was a bit difficult to install them on the Werner lumber rack on my pickup. The clamshell clamps are slightly smaller than the cross section of the lumber rack bars. This meant that I had to force the clamp bolts onto and around the lumber rack bars, which marred the lumber rack. I had to buy longer carriage bolts for the clamps because of this issue. I’m sure this product will fit the luggage rack of the average SUV without a problem. The included tie down straps seemed a little flimsy so I replaced them with some hefty NRS straps. ... show more

I got these cause my old ones didn't fit my new roof rack's square cross braces. These are easy to assemble, come with multiple straps, and feel sturdy once installed.

A lot of reviews complained about the instructions but I did not find them too hard to follow. I successfully carried a 14 foot kayak at highway speeds for around 5 hours. However, after only about 2 weeks I noticed rust spots on the roof and rusting somewhere on either the nuts or bolts. I am surprised this product, that is constantly exposed to the elements, is not treated to prevent rust. ... show more

These racks worked very well! Easy but tedious construction. However installing onto the vehicle was easy and no damage done to the vehicle. Held down the kayaks well and didn’t budge an inch on the freeway at >70mph. With wind. I didn’t use the straps however that came with these so not sure about those.     • Rusted in a month and hard to install

The bolts that hold the racks to the car rusted in about one month of Florida weather. Check out the pictures. The rest of the system is coated but the bolts are not coated and they are not stainless steel. They must be the cheapest bolts available. Aside from the fact that the rusty bolts leaked rusty water on my car roof, if the bolts fail then the entire system fails. And the included wing nuts are super hard to screw on. I guess that’s designed so they will be very hard to come off - bc they were very hard to remove. I guess it was also harder to remove the wing nuts because in one month the bolts had built up quite a built of rust. Still, I’m going to write this system off and toss them and by something higher quality and easier and faster to install. ... show more

They do not take too long to get together if your mechanically inclined, they work as they should- as long as you tie up the kayaks correctly. I have used them twice already- both times, they seemed to hold up well. Going down the highway at 65-70 mph without an issue.
