Description

The MPG125 FoldAway-5 can carry a single recreational or touring kayak on it's side, vertically stack two kayaks, carry a canoe or large sit-on-top kayak, and transport any size SUP. Featuring a pair of quick-release fold-down frames with removable 2-boat modules for transporting wide loads. Each set of carriers are built with corrosion resistant coated steel, thick over-sized padding and heavy duty molded parts. The universal mounting system fits a large cross section of aftermarket load bars (round, square and oval) as well as most factory systems. Also includes two lengths of mounting bolts to achieve the best rack installation. Comes with cam style load straps, bow & stern safety tie-downs and SUP foam pads. Product workmanship and material performance is with our Lifetime Limited .

I saved some money by ordering the double kayak carrier. I wish I would have spent a little bit more and got 2 separate sets because this works best in the middle of the car but then it's hard to reach. If I move it toward the side of the car, it's a short reach on that side, but way too far from the other side. This is just preference I guess and no fault of the item itself. I had a different style Malone rack that I bought used for cheap. Unfortunately after taking rough roads in the forest cracked the base of the mount. These new ones however are quite sturdy and the material seems to be solid all around. Went on a pretty rugged trail first day with my kayaks up top and they were solid majority of the way. Of course check your straps occasionally because off-road they will likely loosen up since they aren’t ratchet straps. Although I secured an additional ratchet strap around both kayaks just for less opportunity for movement. ... show more

It worked well but it was a bit cumbersome to put on. We left them on and it rained and we noticed some rust spots on the top of our car.

This rack has worked perfectly. Sturdy and easy to mount without much assembly. Loved that it had two lengths of bolts to choose from so as not to risk damaging the top of my car. Like the fold down and adjustable aspect. It's been great whether we've hauled one of our kayaks in the J-cradle position or two in the stacker position.     • Just what I wanted. Did the job.
Exactly what I needed for half the price of the high end stuff. Easy to mount. Plenty of straps and lines for two kayaks. Carried both for 4 hours at 80 mph. I did use stronger ratchet straps then the ones that with the kit. The straps in the kit loosened at high speed. I mostly wanted the rack so I’m OK with that. Edit: I thought the rack was an upside down T, but was an L with an extra footing. This worked out fine, better actually, because one of my boats is taller than the other. I moved the extra "foot" out a couple of inches for the trip back. Again, no issues. Happy with my purchase. ... show more

    • Nice rack for carrying a single kayak, not really useful for two.
I bought this to carry two kayaks and it does not really work well for this. To carry two, the back support needs to be vertical rather than tilted at an angle as you would do with a single kayak J bar rack. This means the kayak really needs to held by hand while strapping it in or it can fall over toward you. This makes it really hard to load. The other issue is that with the rack in the center of the roof, the distance from the edge of the car to the rack is too far to manage the process. Basically we found it required two people and a lot of effort to load. For a long distance trip where you load and unload once, it would be fine and take up less roof space than two J bar racks, if you still want the fold down option. For us, living a mile from the water, where we load and unload daily, it was two much effort. If you carry only one kayak and want the fold down, this will be a good choice. The plastic clamp to adjust the tilt of the back support works well but if you put the strap on the that tilting support you are relying on that plastic to hold the kayak down. I would not trust that so you have to bring the strap all the way down to the load bar, which also makes it more difficult to manage. With a non tilting/folding J rack, there is no plastic so you can wrap the strap around the metal support and it is easier to load, but of course it does not fold down. Summary - If you want to carry two kayaks and load/unload often, and want the fold down option, you really need two sets of these, one mounted on each end of the load bars, with the support set at an angle (like a non tilting J rack). You will still need to put the strap around the load bar, but otherwise it is a nice system for that application. For a single kayak with fold down, it is pretty good. ... show more

    • Works great on all Vehicles. Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek 5 Starts
I have a Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek, which has very large top rails, that I went through 5 different Kayak racks that did not fit. This one fit with ease and had no issues. 2 years down and they are functioning like brand new every time.
