    • Great value for the money, SOLID J-bars
I bought these after looking at several options. They arrived quickly and I was very pleased. They are very strong and fairly easy to assemble. The directions weren't the best, but it wasn't rocket science either. They fit nicely on my Rhino Rack and I was able to put two kayaks on the roof of my truck. Another PLUS of these are the straps and tie downs. I didn't really expect them to be as useful as they were. I was able to use them to secure the kayak to the J-bars and then secure the front and the back of the kayak to the front and back of my truck, securing them perfectly. We drove over 300 miles, reaching 70+ MPH and the kayaks didn't budge and the straps stayed nice and tight. I would buy these again if I needed them. ... show more

    • Sturdy but difficult to assemble
As some other reviewers have remarked, the assembly of these kayak racks was a bear! The drilled holes in the tubes don't line up well which required knocking the bolts through with a hammer. These are carriage bolts with a square end designed to fit into a square hole. It was very difficult to to get them to seat properly. Again, as others have said, the supplied "wrench" is useless. Also, the unit comes with hand tightening nuts to attach to the car crossbars. There is no mention of these nuts in the "instructions". I basically had to figure out everything for myself. Now the good part. Once installed, these racks are very solid and secure and the straps are great. 45 minutes to install. With a better instruction sheet and better quality control on the drilling machine, I would give it five stars. Recommended for reasonably handy folks. ... show more

I received the rack this afternoon. I had no trouble assembling it. I used a 13mm extended socket instead of the wrench provided with the rack. This made it much easier to assemble. It took about 30-40 minutes to assemble, but I was not in a hurry. Instructions were easy to follow. I was somewhat concerned about the rack fitting on my Thule aero bars, but it fit just fine. After installing the rack and mounting my kayak on the rack, I drove about 30 miles to get some groceries for a kayak camping trip I'm going on in a few days. Boat was rock-solid in the rack and the rack didn't shift at all. The straps that were included with the rack were exactly the right length to hold the boat in place. There were extra washers and locknuts included in the hardware which was nice. All in all, I'm a very happy customer. Update... Returned from a kayak camping trip to the Sierras (about 200 miles each way.) Rack was rock solid all the way. Drove at the speed limit (might have exceeded the limit a few times, possibly). No problems with boat or rack. Had some nasty cross winds across the Central Valley and one of the passes through the Coast Range but the rack and boat stayed firmly in place.     • “OK” kayak racks
Kind of a pain to set up, instructions kind of suck, and they DO NOT fit narrow roof racks. If your roof rack has narrow bars these will slide around and are not stable. I had to use clips to keep them in place and later ended up getting rid of these and got a different brand. I’m sure they will work great with wider racks! ... show more

    • Solid and easy to assemble
So impressed with this rack. Materials are heavy and quality. The tool it comes with is actually very functional and will go in my toolbox. I used a deep socket 13mm but it wasn’t quite deep enough to tighten it. I’m very happy with the rack and straps.

    • Havent had a kayak on them yet but…..,
The instructions were pretty self explanatory, assembly was easy and big shock they actually fit my 3 inch Mont Blanc Aero cross bars. A lot of J racks don’t so I’m happy with this purchase however I am confused as the pictures show 3 inch oval cross rail but the description says up to 2.5 inch so I’ll be back to update this review if the performance is not up to par with a kayak on them. Tip - don’t over tighten any screws until you have them all in place. Tightening them down as you go means the last two won’t align. Despite being extremely tight, the J hooks slid across my brand new $500 cross bars as soon as there was a crosswind. I will absolutely never put them on my car again! Don't waste your money, get higher quality ones.
