It’s a neat idea, seems like more of a novelty than an a dependable lighter. The actual are that you can use to set something a light is very small; you need to hit dead center of the “X”. (If you’re a smoker the best way to light is to turn the lighter sideways and then come in from on top). The lighter doesn’t have anywhere near the projection of heat that a traditional flame lighter does - you need to really hit the arcs to get anything to light which is just a little awkward for lighting anything that you’re smoking(won’t work for pipes) and really tricky if you’re trying to light kindling for a fire. It is extremely waterproof, impressively so and considering it’s electric that’s definitely important. It holds a charge for about 5 days but as time passes by it definitely drops how strong the arc is. The contacts where the arc emanate from seem to be getting a bit sooty after a few weeks and I’m not sure if that will affect the functionality in the long run or if it’s something that you can clean off. Overall I think that It’s worth keeping in a camping/bug out bag - it’s built solid enough, it’s waterproof and it’s rechargeable/doesn’t need fuel - I don’t know if I would recommend using it as an everyday lighter. ... show more

This is actually my second purchase. Family took my first one. Really handy. Tried to light something with a regular lighter on a windy day and it just wasn't working before a friend of mine came up with an electric lighter and it worked. It is a bit awkward to light certain things due to how its designed and you would need to tip your hand to it, if that makes sense. Say if you are lighting a candle and the wick was too far down or the rim was not big enough, then its a bit more difficult to directly light the wick.
