This is a great little lighter. Seems to hold a charge for a decent amount of time, does a good job at lighting tinder, not as good as a direct flame but still works well. I have sadly been on this island for 13 days now with nothing but this lighter, a gps, and a hatchet to start. My only surviving colleague from our crash had his ears blown out so the only thing hd can hear is the hum of this lighter. The cannibals keep trying to take over, and the UV the lighter emits seems to help, but not completely deter. I built a fire with it last night to roast some freshly caught fish, and a strange three legged woman came out from the woods to sit by the fire. She brought me berries. This is a great camping lighter - We purchased it for our survival kit. It works really well. It's small, very compact. Rubberized on the outside to make it easier to hold on to. It's a great emergency lighter! Having said all of this, I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. All of my reviews reflect my honest, personal experience with the reviewed item - your experience may be different. I am not influenced by any outside source. I receive/accept NO free products or discounts that are not available to all shoppers- ever. For some reason our shopper ranks are no longer visible - so, to give you a little more info about me, I am a top 50 reviewer (#30 the highest rank achieved). Those numbers used to fluctuate over time - up and down but I noticed that they stopped updating regularly - perhaps to phase them out. It's a shame because it did help you see who has been around the longest and who is a trustworthy reviewer. There is a number of mixed reviews for this item, so I thought I would share my opinion on the item. I ordered two. Mine was ordered March 19th, 2021 and I purchased another for a friend on March 22nd of 2021 as well. I have been using it for going on two years now, and as long as it is maintained, it works well. If you smoke, it will light a cigarette so long as you puff on the cigarette while the arc is going. If the area around the arc is significantly dirty, the arc may not connect, leading to difficulty lighting anything. I use tobacco pipe cleaners to clean it regularly and this helps to keep the arc from being interrupted by any foreign objects. Someone mentioned it melting one of their USB charging cables, but I have walked away from this item many times while it was charging and I made sure the blue light was lit up. I would question the quality of the charging cable or power strip that it was plugged into as I have not had any issues with it in this regard. It does die rather quickly, but for how small it is, this is to be expected. If you actively use it to light things all day, you should expect to charge it at least once daily, or in-between using it. It has replaced the use of BIC lighters for me, and I usually have to charge it once a day. It usually takes about an hour to charge when completely dead, so I will avoid smoking during this time. It's been hit and miss for some, but as long as you care for it, it should be more than useful for you. ... show more
