I am a relative newbie to ice fishing partially because I have been discouraged with an old, dulled out Strikemaster Mora for years. I have purchased and returned two different electric drills mistakenly thinking they had poor battery life as they only had enough power to drill 2 to 3 ice holes in 12 inch ice attached to my Mora. Save yourself unnecessary exertion and expense and begin with this Strikemaster Lazer. Like the reviews that drew me to this product, it cuts like butter, and a friend watching me use it for the first time said it looked like the auger was melting into the ice (albeit, he's the same one who saw me take 20 minutes to drill through 15" of ice with my old auger). This 7" Strikemaster Lazer attached to a Dewalt Brushless 20V Max with a Vendetta Precision Ice adapter, takes 20 to 30 seconds to cut through 15" of ice if you don't stop to remove the ice shavings (not recommended as it's easier to remove the ice before you break through to water). I easily cut 8 holes in 15 to 18" ice and I guess I could have cut MANY, MANY more holes before taxing the battery on my drill. When you try to be as economical as possible like me, you admittedly will struggle more before learning what works. Skip my struggles and buy this combination of Strikemaster Lazer, recommended electric drill, and adapter. Instead of the Clam conversion kit, I attached a frisbee as shown (and added two bolts for good measure for added diameter) to prevent the possibility of losing my auger should it detach from my drill when breaking through the ice. To avoid painfully cranking my wrists while drilling, simply rest the electric drill against your leg while drilling into the ice. Enjoy! ... show more

    • Great Auger
I took my new auger out for a test run on 2/7/15. The only other hand auger that I have owned was an 8" Eskimo, which has served me well to this point. The new auger that was purchase was a 7" auger. Time has taught me that a 7" auger is probably still more than I need most of the time but why shave an extra in of ice if there is no need. I am very impressed with the short period of time that I was drilling through the 14" of ice that was on the lake yesterday. The Strike Master appears to be a superior product in comparison to the Eskimo. With that being said, the Strike Master Lazer was also a more expensive auger than the Eskimo. i purchased the Eskimo 2 years ago for 54.00 verses close to 100.00 for the Strike Master Lazer. Taking the extra $46 into account I would still feel that I received a great product for the additional money spent. I was able to drill through 14" of ice in approximately 30 seconds from start to stop. That drilling nonstop start to stop. ... show more

The product was very good at what it was designed to do but could have been better had all blades been in package. Company gave $30.00 back ,but replacement blade cost $8.00 more, over all ,even with one blade it worked fine

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son and husband. They have only got to use it once so far but both say it's very easy to use and cuts the ice VERY nicely!! They were really impressed with how well it cut and how easy to handle it was. My husband didnt have faith in a hand held auger but said that he was impressed with this one! Btw they were cutting through about 13 inches of ice! ... show more

    • One hell of a drill!
Man it was so nice to finally use a good auger after using the old school augers that take 15 mins per hole. This cuts through in 2 mins or less with 8-10" of ice. At the end of drilling when you hit water you have to backdrill and then redrill to get it all the way through which is a bit strange but the short still time compensates you for it. ... show more

I wasn't sure how good a hand auger would work, but I read the positive reviews and it worked very well. Cut through the think Northern Wisconsin Lake ice like butter. Hope to get many years of enjoyment out of it. Very sharp cutting blades. Everything seemed to be quality, so it seemed well worth the price. Went Ice fishing with some teenagers. A young man put the protective cover back on but not correctly. The cover falls off, I turn around and the blade lightly touches my leg. I never felt a thing until I felt the warm blood running out of my pants. ER sewed me back up. The moral of the story is use EXTREME CAUTION! Those blades are very very sharp. They work great on more than just ice! ... show more
