We needed a pump which could handle mud settled in the bottom of a well water tank and this one does a great job. I would have given it 5 stars except that it has one shortcoming--no power switch. It's certainly true that you wouldn't want a switch on the body of the pump, but it would have been very helpful to have one at the end of the power cord. I ended up buying a short 3-prong cord with a waterproof switch to plug into the end of the power cord so I don't have to unplug the cord to shut it off. Pumped out my cistern in the basement with ease. I tried going cheap with a 1/4 hp pump and garden hose. No good. After 3 hours it had lowered the level about 6-8 inches, enough to buy me some time to find this pump. This pump with a pool vacuum hose attached lowered the water level 60 inches in 35 minutes which comes to roughly 1 gallon per second. The rise is about 8-9 feet. Pretty impressive. The negatives: I received the first pump and installed it a few days later. The initial flow was as advertised but after 2 days the seals blew out and it quit pumping. I returned it for a replacement and installed the replacement. 4 days after install the flow was reduced by about 1/2. I looked at the pump intake and seals closely but all appeared fine. I examined the discharge hose closely and found no clogs or other reason the flow was reduced. I check On the plus side The return service was great and the pump is oil free a big deal for me. It arrived quickly and well packaged. I am now deciding if I should return this for a refund or replacement. ... show more

    • Received partial opened box turned pump on and sand came out.

Received this pump and desperately need one here in Ft Lauderdale as we just had almost 20" of rain, yard is flooded. I ordered a new pump and received a used pump as sand came out the hose once turned on. Should have been at a reduced price as it is not new but I need it right away.
