  • Very vibrant
Works really well, i mixed the dye with level 30 developer and hair conditioner I previously had black box dye on the back of my head and red money pieces which is why i have brighter red strands in front(:

  • LOVE this product!!
(before and after pics) I love the color my hair took on! I used a volume 40 oreor developer (box calls for 2.4 fl oz per tube of dye) and it came out super vibrant! I recommend you use a developer under 40 if you want it to be more subtle, though. Absolutely love it!

  • Amazing Red
This product is absolutely amazing! The last time my hair was dyed was ~8 years ago and it was done by at a hair salon. Quarantining in boring so I decided to dye my own hair. I have Asian black hair so I was worried that my hair wouldn't change to red at all. I have shoulder length hair and bought 3 hicolor Red boxes and used ~8 oz of 30 volume developer. I followed the dye and developer proportions on the box and put it in my hair for a little more than an hour. It does smell horrible though and burns your eyes and nose a bit so make sure that you have good air flow and ventilation where ever you dye your hair. Only a little bit of nail polish remover easily got rid of the dye stains in my bathroom. And the dye washed off my skin (I forgot to put on vasaline so I was very red afterwards) very easily with only body soap. After about a month of washes with color safe shampoo and conditioner, the color is still just as vibrant. When my hair is dry, there no color bleeding on my clothes or pillow so I can definitely say that the color stays in my hair. I attached a picture in my review that was taken after dying and washing my hair and letting my hair airdry so my hair in the pic is still damp and uncombed. When my hair was completely dry, it was a shade brighter but I don't have a picture. ... show more

  • Quick Fix
I used this after messing up with a different hair dye that made me ginger... I was ready to just bleach to white and use a semi permanent, then.... then i found this magic little thing. :D If you want a totally different color when you have black hair, you WILL be disappointed. When they say 'for dark hair' it bascially means, for unbleached hair, but if you have black hair, you're gonna have red tints. Also, if you want a pink toned red instead of an orange toned red, this is for you. If you want an unnatural color, this is for you. NOTE: For your entire head, unless you have a pixie cut, get at least three boxes. I have long thick hair so i needed three. Leave it on for about 35 minutes, tin foil/heat really does make a difference with this product, and make sure you use more developer than dye like it says on the box, you really need to reserve with how much you use, and the more developer, the brighter it comes out... but don't flood it with developer. Just a bit more than half of the whole mixture should be developer. Hope this was helpful! I know that when i was looking for a hair dye i really could have used a review on a specific product giving me detail on what to do, how much i'll need, and what colors it can turn out as with what hair color i have! (It fades to an auburn btw, like a brownish red... so redye it when it starts to fade or it'll get dark and be harder to get back to the red it once was!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough!!!! i waited the whole summer to redye cause i didn't really care if it faded for the summer, and it became dark redish brown, and now it took two dyes and it's not quite as bright.... :( might do a bleach for like 10 minutes just to lighten the hair and remove some of the dye that's still there.... Sorry if this is megga long! Want to help out!!!! ... show more

  • Gorgeous Red!
I am obsessed!!! I used 1 Magenta and 2 reds plus developer for my whole head. Background: I never use heat on my hair (except when blow drying after dying it), wash once a week, use color safe shampoos, and use hair oils after washing. I have seen no damage to my hair at all! After a month all that needs touching up is my roots! Will be using for as long as I wanna be red!! FYI: STRONG ammonia smell ... show more

  • Loreal Hicolor Hilights Red and Magenta
I purchased four tubes (2 in RED and 2 in MAGENTA) I thought I was going to need four! The reviews on here said you'd need many tubes if you have long hair (mine goes to my bra strap on my back) and I had more than enough left using two. I mixed a tube of RED and a tube of MAGENTA together with a 30 volume developer and the brand recommended. Dying my hair cons: It smelled soooooo strong. I literally had tears in my eyes and I was yelling to my friend "OH MY GOD HELP ME!" The fumes from this stuff made all my eyeliner run down my face and I was crying from my eyes burning. It eventually stopped but the scary thing is, I dyed my hair two nights ago, my eyes still burn, and I still feel sick (the fumes probably made me sick) yeah, I still feel weird and my head hurts, I'm kind of freaking out haha. It's also hard to mix. There were so many chunks I wanted to get an egg beater. But I said eff it and used my hands (with gloves on) to mix it and squish the chunks. It was easy to slab onto my head and I used a brush for some of the time but I eventually used my hands. Pros while in the dying process: Doesn't stain skin, comes off very easily. My friend has dyed dark dark brown hair and she tested a strand and her hair turned out a hot pink/ plum color in just the 15 minutes she left it on. (just shows how good this stuff works) I put it on my whole head for 35 mins. My hair color before this was like a medium brown/red, not very pretty it had a lot of copper. In just 15 minutes I could see my hair turning pink and I was scared because I wanted RED! (my fault for doing half and half with red and magenta) Pretty easy to do, just use a shower cap or something to keep the heat in. When I washed it out: I used the coldest water I could stand. I washed it for a few minutes then applied a deep conditioner and I didn't let the water run clear before I conditioned or after, so expect some bleeding if you go outside in the rain, use an umbrella. I didn't get much rub off on my towel though. Final result: My hair is completely fried. Some of my hair felt like I had hairspray in it, it was so crunchy I was freaking out. Today, two days later I can barely run my fingers through it anymore it's that damaged and stiff. You really need a protein and keratin treatment or few after this. I can't tell you how long it stays, I haven't shampooed yet and I wash my hair twice a week. When my hair is in good condition again I am going to use just the RED color and I'm sure I will get the Ariel red I've been wanting! I do like the color now, it's just too pink based. In some lights such as florescent it looks like Ariana Grande's hair when it was more pink based, but in dimmer or darker lightings it looks red velvet, which is great I've been wanting a red enough color that shows up in any lighting instead of those stupid box dyes I've been using that you can only see some red in the sunlight! Over all, this stuff is pretty good, but don't expect RED if your hair is black. I'd suggest bleaching it a shade or two lighter, letting it heal, then use this. Very pretty color though! I can't wait to see how it fades then dye it with just the RED! :) ... show more
