    • Works for my RAV4 factory crossbars
The trick with these is to trim the opening (where they fit over the crossbars) to make it work with your crossbars. My OEM crossbars are about 2.5" wide. It would have been very difficult (if not impossible) to try to fit these on without trimming some from the opening, which is only about an inch wide. I can see that without doing that the pads would split trying to put them on, since you have to open them so wide. Just take a sharp chef's knife and cut along the opening on both sides to widen it. In my case, I widened it to about 1.75 to 2". The pads go on fairly easily, they stay on, and are easy to remove. ... show more

Compress a lot, but stay on the mounting bars. Should be a lot cheaper as it’s just a rubberized foam material.

    • more supportive than most
The curvature of these units conform more closely to the hull of my kayak and thus distribute the weight over a wider area, at least on my kayak (YMMV). The more typical support offers straight cut V shapes with the depth of the V only an inch and a half or so deep.
