    • I just want everyone considering this safe to know what it actually is and is not.
Size: 2.0 Cubic Feet
Advertised as the Kavey 2.0 cubic foot Fireproof and Waterproof Safe Box, Home Safe. Here is what you are getting. You get a 38-pound H17.71" x W14.96" x D12.59" battery powered electronic and key backup powder coated alloy steel box with the thickest metal (door) being about 10ga. It comes with 2-Emergency Keys, 2-Hidden Compartment Keys, 6-Expansion Screws, 1-Emergency Battery Box, 4-Non-Slip Foot Mats. Here is my observation now that I have bought the safe: First off, my cons: I think Kavey has miss represented this safe BIG TIME. It is advertised as “waterproof”; rocket science is not my specialty but anything that has six holes in it and no seal on its door is not going to be waterproof. Next it is advertised as “Fireproof” again six holes and no seal on the door and no kind of noted fired protection on the top and the bottom. The sides and door are covered with a thin carpet which I did not remove to see, but appears to be just the alloy coated steel underneath. So, I would estimate that if this safe was in or near a fire it would not take long for the heat to penetrate and combust anything combustible, especially the glued-on carpet so high temperature resistance is out. Now speaking of the six holes for securing the safe, I would highly recommend using the expansion screws due to the light weight safe but you’re not going to be able to use all the provided holes. The four holes located at the back of the safe are easy enough after you poke holes in the carpet. But the two holes located in the bottom of the safe are useless due to the fact that the frame of your “Secret Compartment” is above the predrilled holes so you cannot get the expansion screws in them no matter how hard you try. To solve this, I just drilled some new holes, now it may be because it is the bottom of the safe, but I drilled through the bottom like it was butter so I’m going to have to say the anti-drilling claim is out the window and I noted no fire resistance material when drilling. The “secret compartment” is cool but it is by no means secret, reason being is the lock is not flush so there is a big bump in the carpet covering it up. I solved this by taking a piece of cardboard and cutting it the same dimensions as the bottom carpet painted it black, cut a hole where the lock is and spray glued it to the carpet so everything is now flat. Also, the first time I opened the secret compartment it was stuck. Like any red blooded American I forced it open and bent the left hinge. I was able to bend it to it correct position with out breaking anything and it works properly now. There is a LED light built into the door but does not put out enough light to be of any use. The 4 x 28MM solid locking bolts on the left are cool to look at and give a great impression but the door swings on two bolts inserted into the top and bottom of the frame on the right of the door. The 60MM thick solid door again is a miss representation, it is in no way the advertised “solid” as it holds your battery compartment, LED, and those 4 x 28MM locking bolts and the components to move the bolts when turning the dial or using the backup key. I am not a fan of a safes that have a keyed backup due to it making it easier for someone to pick the lock. This safe comes with a battery backup box (which I like) why do you need the key. Just do not forget your combination. Last, the 70-decibel alarm is on the inside of the safe so if it is an actual 70 db. it is muffled. I doubt it will be waking anyone up unless you’re in the same room with it. Now having said all that, I looked at the advertised pictures read the product and customer comments and knew what I was buying beforehand. I have bought other similar safes in the past but don’t recall them claiming to be water or fire proof. So here is my pro’s: I paid $150 on Aug. 19 2023 as a lighting deal with a coupon on Amazon. Nowadays you can’t even buy a small metal locker or tool box for that price. My intended use was to place my pistol and other items like my wallet, keys etc. in a secure location I could use every day. So, mounting on top of a file cabinet and to the wall next to my desk was perfect. For what it is, it looks good, plenty of room, has a well mounted adjustable shelf, I especially liked the secret compartment aspect. I also like the flush mount front door of the safe and the fact the it is made of a heavier gage steel then say the lockers I was looking at. I doubt this safe will keep thieves out for long but is will definitely slow them down (hopefully long enough). It will serve my intended purpose of keeping important and dangerous items out of reach of children and visitors to my house but close at hand for my EDC.     • Solid Safe Solution
Size: 2.0 Cubic Feet
Was in need of an upgrade of the safe where I store personal effects & valuables. Had a small cabinet safe, about a 1/4 of the size of this Kavey. So this is a considerable amount more storage space for me w an added shelf for organizational purposes that I really like. The door seals all the way around, so the rolled edges of the door are concealed within the door frame & the door closes flush all the way around. Safe does come w a small LED button light affixed to the door in between the hinges, that kick on when you open the safe door. But light shuts off after 20 to 30 seconds, which is fine if the safe is kept in an otherwise well lit area. However, myself, I had to stick a second small LED button lamp inside the safe, on the top to increase visibility & then able to cut the light out when ready as opposed to a predetermined shutoff time. It has 4 lock rods/bolts that slide over to lock the door when it’s closed. Which was a big selling point for me, to have at least 3 sliding/lock bolts down the door to lock & seal the safe shut. I did not want a safe as big as this one that only had 2 pencil sized diameter lock rods, roughly speaking, or a touch bigger, one on either side of the keypad or lock. Then those 2 lock rods be set 6 inches apart, w bare steel door running almost 1/2 the length of the door on either side of the lock rods. Just felt like there was too much left open along the inside of the door & opening to be able to get a pry bar in the crease & pry open a safe configured that way. Just personal thoughts/opinion. This safe has 4 good sized, 1/4”, maybe 1/3” to 1/2” diameter thick lock rods though, evenly spaced down the locking side of the open door. The large space upgrade, w the solid 4 lock rods were definitely big pluses for me & big check marks to cross off the list of “must haves” when looking for a new safe. So was the weight, as I believe the safe weighs in at over 50lbs, if I’m not mistaken. Point being, it’s cumbersome & a bit awkward to just pickup & walk off w, if someone were to try to. It could be done, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Liable to throw one’s back out in the process of lifting it up, & then trying to run off somehow, somewhere w it. Finally, really was the little drawer at the bottom under the bottom piece of carpeting. The built-in lockbox feature that this safe has contained in it was the feature that pushed this one to the top of the list for me when researching a new safe. I mean, it sounds a little redundant & sort of, well almost even anal, to go so far as to have a “hidden compartment” drawer & what serves as a small lock box embedded in the bottom of this model safe. I guess maybe that’s the point though when purchasing an item like this, that the thought of your valuables & personal belongings are well protected & safe guarded from damage, destruction, or theft, & that you have the ability for your security systems to be strong & redundant, but most importantly, effective & reliable. I like how the safe makers had security redundancy in mind w the addition of the hidden lockbox & that whole idea, but also strength & providing a strong, solid locking system & mechanism. Along w a strong encasement that houses all of your valuables & belongings that need to be kept “safe.” Which I definitely feel that way about this Kavey safe. I would recommend it to anybody w need for a safe larger than an average wall safe. ... show more

I bought this safe during a lightning deal and for the price I paid for it, it is pretty good. The only issues I had with the safe was inserting the batteries and setting up the second combination. For the batteries, there is a plastic cross that separates them so they don’t pop out of the safe. This is a good idea, but it also equally makes it harder to add or replace batteries (they do include a plug-in battery pack if needed). For the second combination, my instruction manual said to use “?0?” and press the enter key and set the new passcode. However, this didn’t work and I had to email customer support which told me it was just “00”. Hopefully this helps anyone with a reused manual. ... show more
