This isn’t just a fancy kettle. It’s a lot closer to a ceramic kamado than it is to a metal kettle. All it needs is a gasket around the lid and it holds it’s temperature perfectly. Cooked & smokes very well. Uses less charcoal & wood than the off set stick burner. Dislike, 1 brisket at a time. With a med brisket cooking , that’s all you have room for.

I have NEVER smoked anything. I grill a mean steak tho. My old charcoaled was dead, and I didn’t want another huge one so I started doing research. I came across Kamado grills and became educated, but they weigh 400lbs and I can’t move that kind of weight. The kettle is amazing, and 132lbs on a great stand. Moves easily. I smoked the first thing and it came out amazing. It grills just as well and I’m sure if I baked, it would excel at that too. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to maintain temp but I did, and wow I have been kidding out. I can’t wait to cook something else. Buy ut. Thank me later. Serious quality control issues on this grill. The first unit had a missing top vent. Contacted the manufacturer. No response for about ten days. When I finally got a vent, it was for the wrong grill. Clearly their support was not paying attention to the details of my concern. Thankfully Amazon sent me a replacement unit. On my third low and slow cook I noticed the porcelain enamel starting to chip around the handle of the lid. There are also other areas of the lid where the porcelain enamel is lacking. Fit and finish is rather poor. I had high hopes for this grill. I thought my cook times would be longer with the added insulation but it’s no better than a properly set up Weber kettle. Needless to say I doubt I’m going to buy another Kamado Joe product. Should have gotten the Weber Summit Kamado or Big Green Egg for a bit more money. I’ll probably end up selling this grill eventually. ... show more

Everything worked great for the Kettle Joe until you start moving it around. Nuts become loose. Nuts fall out randomly and the lid will fall off. Chimney vent falls off half the time. Having to use way more charcoal as the smoker stays too hot even with all the vents shut when you're done smoking/grilling. Very disappointed as their ceramic smokers are phenomenal, and this Kettle Joe is same quality of a Walmart brand. ... show more

Received my kettle a day sooner than expected and can’t wait to use it. Finally replacing a Weber kettle which never performed or held up like my original one I bought back in the late 90’s. Overall this Kettle joe looks nice but there were a few issues. 1st is the thermometers probe was bent on the inside of the lid and was never tightened down. 2nd several bolts are missing for the legs when they are to be secured to the kettle itself. 3rd the sloroller has chips all around the top and bottom edges from movement during shipping. 4th one of the tabs in the sloroller is missing paint or the paint cracked which is going to rust and hoping Kamado Joe provides touch up paint. I am waiting to use the kettle until after I talk to customer service and other than these several items this kettle looks and feels really nice. Will update once I get to use it Update 1) The original photos only show a few of the chips 2) Put in a service ticket and though Kamado is replacing the thermostat and missing bolts they won't cover the chipped up sloroller as they state "chips don't affect performance" but no where can I find it in they warranty that it says the warranty is only for parts that affect performance. The sloroller has a minimum of 5-6 chips per top and bottom edge and in no way is it acceptable to expect a customer to pay full price for damaged goods. I asked them to reconsider and clearly let them know their final decision will determine any future purchases of their products, needless to say they didn't so this is my 1st and last purchase of a Kamado product!!! 3) I am also finding it extremely difficult to control the burn on this thing, even dampered almost all the way down it's still running at 400 degrees. This needs a gasket around the lid and so far only when I haven't let the coals catch more than 50% have I been able to keep the burning down for smoking. I know it will take some time to learn this kettle but this is a bit much. ... show more

I really like the way it heats up quickly. I also purchased the rotisserie, it works fantastic with the grill. The charcoal seems to last longer than my old smoker/grill and it maintains a constant heat for several hours. Very good value for the money. $100. Less than lowes
