  • About getting the proper parts on the machine
Color: Black
The machine arrived, apparently as is normal, needing a lot of cleaning. After watching a number of U-tube videos to learn how to & make the machine as smooth running as possible and spending many hours of bur removal and adjustment on it. There is one thing that has been bothering me about my purchase. The machine has the wrong part on it for the main functioning stitch arm. This is not the right part, the proper one is made almost double thick for longevity & strength were the bolt pin goes through the arm. Also, there is, on the proper arm, a hole going vertical down the center for the thread to go through. The arm that was sent to us on this machine has a hole going horizonal in it which seems to add extra tension to the thread, the way it is routed. I glued a peace aluminum tube on it to alleviate the tension. I bought this machine from Ironwalls, which I seemed to have pay a bit more for than had I bought from other vendors, hoping to get the proper parts and a better sewing machine, which showed on the add. I would like to get the proper arm for this machine. Is this something a person could buy from you as I have spent so much time on this machine to make it better? ... show more

  • Not for everyone
Color: Green
It took me a long time to make it operate as it should. I also find it hard to hold the leather with one hand and crank with the other. I bought a motor to attach to the crank shaft. I believe that will make this a good machine. If you are not mechanically inclined, this could be a frustrating purchase. If you do like to tinker with stuff and are able to synchronize the workings, you will have a good little tool. ... show more

  • Big upgrades since 2017
Color: Green
I bought my first "leather patcher" in 2017. It came in a box that was disintegrating, packed in cosmoline, ratty paint, rough castings, overall poor fit and finish. there was one bearing in the entire machine. Jump forward to the Ironwalls machine - it came well packed, the frame is now cast aluminum with a good paint job. Real bearings. Zinc finish. Information still lacking so expect to go to YouTube for the howto, especially if you need to set the timing. It is not difficult but you need to know how. A little increase in price but a huge improvement in quality. Great product. ... show more

  • No instructions with mine.
Color: Black
Had to get my instructions on youtube otherwise I would have been completely lost. Once I got machine set up and going it worked surprisingly well. Hand cranking was easier than expected. I am completely satisfied with this product.

  • Doesn’t want to stay on 3 small poles supplied. Hard to maneuver
Color: Green
It’s not very stable on the three little poles that are supplied for it so when you turn the lever it rocks back-and-forth and you have to try to study it with one hand, hold your boot, and then use the other hand and turn the lever

  • A great machine, but takes some work to get it there
Color: Green
The other reviews have been pretty accurate. The short version is the product arrives in barely usable condition, but if you have any DIY ability you can fix it up and will end up with a functional product for a great price. My machine came with needles and thread, but neither we're appropriate for leather. Many parts needed to be filed and polished. I would recommend buying tools to do that work if you don't already own them. The instructions were in Russian but helpful YouTube videos are plentiful. Styrofoam everywhere. The stand is worthless and I wish they would just leave it out, but building a new one is simple. I do a lot of hand stitching and the look of this isn't quite as aesthetic, but it's still straight and clean and will be a huge time saver. I am also still playing with needle and thread combos as the thread that fits on most easily available needles is ideal for wallets but very thin for belts and knife sheaths and quivers and such. I'm thinking I'll need a #20 needle at minimum for the type of job that I use my normal thread for. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for so prepare to use some elbow grease
Color: Green
Many of these sewing machines exist on Amazon under different sellers. However, they're all pretty much universal in how they come. Just know that it isn't normal to use it right out of the box. You will need to clean it up and find a way to put a base on it to use properly. There are several Youtube videos on how to prepare your sewing machine, maintenance of the machine, and how to thread it and use it properly. I strongly suggest that you review them before buying this machine. Once you have it up and running though, it's a strong workhorse in any leather crafter's arsenal. Depending on your luck though, you may need to clean it more than the next guy. You will get extremely dirty touching it for the first time; just to be forewarned. ... show more
