  • Adhesive Pads Don't Hold
Style: Aivo Connect
UPDATE - I added some gorilla double sided sticky squares to the mount and it has held up great. I really like using the mount now that it stays upright. Outside of the adhesive it comes with, I would recommend this product. Like - The idea of having an automatic car mount with Alexa built in. Dislike - The completely useless adhesive pads it comes with that make this unusable. Unit comes with a base (plus an extra) that attaches to the dash of your car. I followed the directions as far as cleaning my dash and allowing it to sit for 10 minutes to bond with the dash surface. First attempt failed as soon as I twisted the mount on the base, which came right off the dash. It felt like it hadn't even bonded with the surface. Second attempt failed as well after following the same directions. This time however the mount stayed on the dash after twisting it onto the base. I got Alexa all set up and then attempted to set my phone in the mount. Once the mount clasped my phone, it came tumbling down like a pile of bricks. It couldn't support the weight of my phone. I use a Fold 2 with a case. So now I have to find an adhesive that actually works. For the price of this mount, its ridiculous that I have to even do this. My rating is strictly based on the fact that I have a mount I cannot use due the worthless material it came with. Once I get a chance to use the product, I'll be updating my review. ... show more

  • Great in theory, awful in application
Style: Aivo Connect
I have used Alexa devices and accessories throughout my house and have set up systems for family, so I’m pretty familiar with the operation and installation of these items. I have had an Alexa Auto in my car for over a year and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I found this mount, I was excited that I’d have a Qi compliant mount and be able to reduce the number of wires on my dash. Installation was pretty simple. There was an app that updated the firmware and that went well, but from there, it went downhill. This mount is advertised as “Alexa built in,” but that isn’t exactly the case. It connects to your phone by Bluetooth, and runs the Alexa app on the phone. If you close the Alexa app, it disconnects. The Alexa Auto, on the other, hand connects through Bluetooth and Does Not require the Alexa App. The catch here, is that the mount takes a few seconds to recognize the wake word, a few more seconds for the App the pick up the command and a few more seconds to carry it out. It’s clumsy at best. The light that tells you the status of the device is BEHIND the phone, so you don’t know if the command was recognized. If you cradle the phone high enough to see the light, it doesn’t charge the phone. There are two buttons on the base of the mount for mute and commands… on the back of the unit! Again, on the back of the mount. You can’t see them and that makes them very hard to get to. If you press the mute button, the light ring turns red…but you can’t see it because it’s blocked by the phone! So, you can’t reach the buttons and you can’t see the lights. Ugh! During an hours trip, I got it to recognize the wake word once. Just once, before I gave up. People must have thought I was arguing with my wife or kid yelling Alexa over and over. In the settings menu of all Alexas, you can set a chime at the beginning on a command and one to know it’s ended. I set this mount up that way, and when you say the wake word, it chimes but doesn’t accept the command. Then it gives the end chime. It was so hard to use that I figured I had a defective unit, so I had Amazon replace and reship another one. Same results, so it’s going back. If the Alexa part worked better, it would be an awesome mount. It looks good and charges well. If it were in the $20-30 range, I might keep it just for the mount. But for its price, I just can’t do it. ... show more

  • Amazon Fans Eat Your Heart Out. Google Fans Move Along.
Style: Aivo Connect
First impressions, before installation 12/17/2020 1. Whats in the box?: - Well packaged as it does not have much in wasted space but has room enough to keep product safe during shipping. - The Aivo Connect Mount that has the Alexa built into the base. - Standard auto power outlet adapter (aka cigarette lighter receptacle) with a USB-C plug for the mount. It also has a USB input to allow an additional device to be connected for power if needed. - Two sticky dash mounting pads, as this is not designed to be mounted on the windows. - Documentation which is easy to read and informative. 2. Mount Installation: - Very easy to install as you just line up the arrow on the dashboard pad, allow time for it to fully adhere then slide on the mount and twist. (see my small gripe about proper mounting below though). 3. App Installation: - Aivo Connect Setup was fairly intuitive as you can read the instructions and then it walks you through the process. It requires the Alexa app to connect, but if you don't have it then it will link you to the app store to install it so don't worry. 4. First time using (easy or hard)? 12/18/2020 - I have a Samsung S20 Ultra with the Otterbox Defender case and it had no issues fitting or holding tight. - Once attaching the mount to the dashpad I thought it was off, then realized it will click into place so might need a bit of strength to twist. Also the part the holds the phone can move forward and back a bit allowing a slight change in the position which while not as good as the other iOttie mounts with telescopic movements, it helps a bit with positioning. The only problem was that I found that I needed the pad to have been turned counter clockwise a hair or two more to center me in the camera when doing video calls. Not the end of the world as you should not actually do video calls or watch videos while driving, however it means that its now stuck like that as it cannot change anymore. Would like to have seen the phone holding part of the mount to have more options for moving the phone similar to the other iOttie product so that you are not limited on movement once the dashpad is placed. - I want to preface this statement with at this moment I am a Google Fan boy so have all Google home automation product and use Google Assistant, not Amazon Alexa at this time. So this was my first time downloading the Alexa app, and I am still trying to figure it out. So at this point I find it much more difficult than Google Assistant. I am going through the app to setup the options to see if that helps. But so far while in the car if I say "Alexa Take me Home" it does. But if I say "Alexa call X" it doesn't. I do see the light on the mount blink which tells me it heard me, but not sure if its the iOttie app or Alexa app having the issue. - I am unsure the point of the addition of the Alexa app into the mount at this point. As you have to have the iOttie Software, which I 5.(Positives) What I like about it? - The unique design allows for some interesting placement options once you get past the small grip I have below. I contemplated a few different spots before going to the tried and true middle of the dash spot. 6. (Negatives) What I am not as fond of? - Would love to see the mount have more options for changing the placement of the phone holder itself as of right now its to limited so if you have multiple drivers in a car or change your posture it may affect the viewing angle of the phone since once installed you can only do a few changes to the angle of the head of the mount (forward/backwards only). It is also slightly top heavy which had me afraid at the start it would quickly pull the tackiness from the mounting piece once the phone settled into it if the phone holder was leaned forward at the maximum angle. All other iOttie dash mounts have very good placement options with the telescopic mounts, so would like to see something like that with the new line. - The button used to open the mount is in an awkward place as because it only opens up when powered on it made it a bit of a pain to find where I wanted to put it for placement to use for video calls and what not as I had to plug it in first. Even then I turned my camera - Would love to see the provided charger be a USB-C standard cable with a car outlet adapter so that I can choose which works best for my car. My car has a USB plug built in and then a car outlet next to it so both work for me but I prefer not to use the outlet. - Would love to have the option to use Google Assistant instead of Alexa as I personally use the Google Home Automation ecosystem not Amazon Alexa. Few questions left to answer: - What's the purpose of this device? - How does it differ from Echo Auto? - How does it differ from Android Auto? ... show more
