    • Easy to install, perfect for carrying my kayak

The rack was easy to install, sturdy, holds my kayak well and is cheaper than the products offered by larger competitors. I park in a high-rise garage so the ability to fold them down vs having to take them off my car to park is very convenient - though they are very easy to install and remove so I could have done that as well. When I first tried to install the rack, I was installing it on my factory cross bars on my Toyota Highlander and the screws were too long. I had the screws cut off so they wouldn't damage my car. I also placed a thin layer of rubber underneath the rack so it was more secure than metal on metal. It worked beautifully. When I upgraded my roof rack system, IKURAM sent me new screws as I then needed the extra length for the thicker crossbars and had trouble finding the correct size at the hardware store. Customer service was very responsive. I am now looking for a couple extra bolts (they are the hand-tightening kind) - which are also proving difficult to find as well. I am hoping customer service may assist me in finding those as well - stay tuned. Overall the product is great. ... show more

This is a great roof rack! This is the second one we’ve owned and absolutely love it! We use it mainly for paddle boards, but we’ve also had kayaks on it. Love the design and ease of lowering the center support. I would caution to check your bolts periodically to make sure they’re tight. We did lose one while we were driving but we had the rack on for a couple of years and hadn’t ever tightened the bolts. Fortunately it still worked fine without the bolt we lost. I would highly recommend this roof rack & would definitely buy it again. ... show more

Works well. Not difficult to install on my Crosstrek. Compact option compared with 2 full sets of J-racks. Some issue with the bolts vibrating loose. Added locking washers from Home Depot and problem seems to be solved. Note. You don't have to install the heavy metal plates that come with it unless you will use it to carry skis. The instructions don't make that clear and trying to load kayaks on the rack with those ski plates installed adds a layer of frustration. ... show more

    • Great Rack (with bad instructions)

As many have commented the instructions aren't very good. But I found YouTube videos (by the same couple) that (a) give helpful advice on assembly, and (b) give advice and instructions on loading two kayaks on this specific rack. We have used it multiple times and the kayaks don't move at all, even at 70 mph. Contrary to what the loading video says, it is not important to keep the straps perfectly flat. In fact, they vibrate less and make less noise if you don't. Finally, one of the photos shows the straps running from the center upright part of the rack to the outside part of the rack. That is wrong. Run the straps from the center upright of the rack, over the kayak, THROUGH the outer part of the rack, around the car's crossbar, back THROUGH the rack and then fasten. That way you are strapping the kayaks to the car's crossbar, rather than just the rack. Doing it that way (which is what they show in the video referenced) is VERY secure. Also, I have a standard garage and when I fold down the center upright portion of the rack (which is quick and easy), I can leave the rack on the car (a Honda CRV) and pull it into the garage with plenty of clearance. This kayak rack is a fantastic solution when you need a versatile rack that can be transformed from holding 2 large kayaks to stand up paddle boards or even skis and snowboards. It is fairly sturdy and easy to put together using the provided instructions. My one complaint was that I wish the teeth that holds the vertical portion of the bar upright and allows it to fold down were made of metal instead of plastic as I could see this as a weak point in the design. The item also arrived with one side of the box completely torn open as if the bottom of the box collapsed and everything fell out and someone just tossed everything back in. I wasn't happy about it, but all the parts were in the box so I kept it. See my attached photos of the carrier with two 14ft+ sea kayaks attached on top. ... show more
