Description

Upgraded Violin Bass Guitar. The sound of a Violin Bass is unlike any other bass. When used with flatwound strings it produces a distinctive deep and penetrating thud not unlike an upright double bass. This sound can be used to emulate those pop sounds of the 1960s or slightly overdriven in a modern rock band to provide a deep driving bass. It is also commonly used today in studios for recording bass lines for dance music. It has also seen increasing use in reggae bands where a deep driving bass is always wanted. Despite being one of the smallest basses available it easily produces massive bass lines and is remarkably versatile.

  • Good just poor design
My complaint about this bass derives from the functionality not the knobs just the intonation as a whole was off to me I took it to a shop they couldn't do much, the strings keep sliding off the bridge which sucks because everytime it happens you need to retune and it's not majorly off but when your mid song singing while playing and one of the strings slide out of place you have to reach in and push it up which is poor design and inconvenient I could file it down so the string will stay in better but that's something I should not have to do for tone it sounds amazing and I've never had a bass so light and its tone is very distinct and awesome. I bought it because I love Paul McCartney and he always had the craziest sounding bass lines. But the only reason he owned one was because finding a left handed bass in the 50's/early 60s was near impossible and it was the only bass that was symmetrical. Later in his career he rocked rickenbackers which raises the question what is Paul McCartney obsession with German basses ... show more

  • E string has soft dead tone.
The E string has a dead feel and does not sound clear and as loud as the other three strings, A, D, G. Very sad because the rest of the Hofner Bass is fine. It’s a nice addition to my collection of basses. Tone Quality not as good as my other violin bass.

  • Bad tuning key
Received the Bass, would not tune, one of the tuning keys was bad. So I ended up buying a new set of Hofner tuners for about $50. Little help from seller on this matter. I'm a guitar tech, so it's set up and good to go. Over all nice sounding bass and easy to play.

  • Beautiful but needed help
Poor setup from factory. Had to have truss rod realigned and both bridges adjusted to keep in tune and not get 'fret buzz'. Made on Friday?

  • Lightweight, great value for the money
Love the light weight and short neck. Pretty ok for the money. The pickups are pretty weak. The quality could be better.

  • Disappointing at best.
The bridge is defective and it makes the guitar completely unplayable. On the bright side, it is a beautiful decoration in the livingroom until I can get it repaired.

  • Not very happy
I needed to have the neck adjusted. The First fret rattled when used.
