  • Fantastic Bass Worth The Price
Color: Black Cherry Style: STILETTO EXTREME-4
I'm learning the bass, still picking everything up. I had an old Dean bass that I was using to take online lessons for. It was good, not great, but it got the job done. I've been playing the bass now for a little over 2 months, so I'm not great by any means but so far this bass has been exactly what I wanted. Originally I was wanting a Yamaha 304 but that is backordered pretty bad. I'm glad I went with this one. First off let's get the superficial stuff out of the way. The bass is absolutely beautiful. I actually saw, and played, this bass at my local guitar center and it stood out as the sharpest looking bass there. The finish is so smooth, so pretty. I could just stare at it for hours, and I have. The fret board is gorgeous, nothing about this bass seems run of the mill looks wise. Now on to the more important stuff. It plays great. It has two pickups and good knobs to find a good sound. Plenty of range to choose from. The fretboard feels nice and wide and the neck is super smooth. I'm able to move up and down the fretboard and across the neck very, very easily. Out of the box it was setup decently well, strings were a little low for me but that's because I despise even the smallest amount of fret buzz. Just had to tune it a tiny bit, everything was about a half step down out of the box. If you are wanting a solid bass that looks beautiful and plays even better, I highly recommend this bad boy. From the basses I played this one sounded and felt the best, even when compared to a bass that was significantly higher (this one cost around 450 and it outplayed basses that were $800 at GC) Get it, you will love it Oh there is one con. Since it has an active pickup it needs a 9V battery. The plate to get it out requires a screw driver and even then it can be tough to pop it out. That is my one and only complaint. • After much consideration... I feel good about this bass
Color: STBLK Style: STILETTO EXTREME-4
Haven't played bass in decades and wanted to fool around with it once again for fun in my 50's. After playing one of these (used) at a local retailer I was impressed with the action and build of the instrument for the price. Couldn't believe how good I sounded! Really wanted a Fender Precision bass ever since I was a teenager but just never got one as I've played guitar primarily for all these years now. One day recently Amazon had a deal on the Extreme 4 Stiletto and I decided to snag one for about $100 off but was wary of ordering a guitar online without playing it first as every instrument is a little different in some way. It arrived in a cardboard box with some styrofoam packing which seemed a bit inadequate but when unboxed delighted to find it in perfect condition. Without any setup it sounds and feels wonderful... for the money. I love the neck on this thing and the active pickups provide a nice full sound. The body is a bit undersized for my liking but that is personal preference and does not diminish anything, just different than my bulkier guitars. I have gone back to the music store several times trying out various Precision and Jazz bass models from Squiers to Mexican Player series thinking I still want to satisfy that urge to have a decent Fender but my last visit convinced me that the Stiletto is a very fine instrument in build and playability that I am happy with, especially for the price I got it for. Very pleased with everything about this purchase and wouldn't hesitate to order another guitar online. If you are a beginner this is a wonderful choice and even if you are a seasoned musician you will find this bass a pleasure to play with excellent tone and action. Fun all around! ... show more

  • Worth at least twice what they're asking for it
Color: Black Cherry Style: STILETTO EXTREME-4
Believe me, I am reluctant to give a $300 bass guitar a 5-star rating. This instrument deserves it. Here's why: With respect to tone, this bass will have you covered in any working band situation, in my opinion. You'll be able to dial in an appropriate sound for any style of music. Its strong suits seem to be: slap-bass tones, warm contemporary R&B tones, and (surprisingly) midrangey jazz solo stuff. Its only weakness seems to be vintage flavors, but think to yourself: If you're looking for vintage bass tones, why are you interested in a mahogany bass with active pickups? Right? My most important criterion in any instrument is its overall playability. In my hands, at least, this bass feels great. The setup was flawless right out of the box, the intonation is true all the way up the neck, the action is low. The neck itself is narrow across the fret board, which lends itself well to bass chords and complex voicings. Once again, the big surprise here is how well-suited this bass is to jazz. The bridge is solid and heavy, like the rest of it, and the overall action gets full marks from me. Cosmetically, I suppose this guitar was targeted to rock and metal players, what with the black hardware and dark cherry finish. I really like the unique body shape, though. It has its own character without being, you know... a BC Rich or something. The inlays are very nice and always draw compliments. The whole thing looks great, so don't let the "heavy metal" finish put you off. This is a great-sounding, very diverse bass with many wonderful tones and features. I was fortunate enough to buy mine while it was on sale, but truthfully it is worth far more than they are asking for it. If you're looking for *THE DEAL*, then I'd have to say this is it. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. ... show more

  • Plays nice and sounds sweet.
Color: Black Cherry Style: STILETTO EXTREME-4
This bass came set up nicely. You can get a variety of decent sounds if you play with the controls. It is light and player friendly and looks pretty darn sweet. The double octave neck is very nice and playing high on the neck is easy and sounds great. My biggest disappointment is the head (tuning peg section) of the neck is a completely different shade of red (cherry) or whatever and doesn't really match the body at all. It's very bright up there but darker and deeper on the body. I should have returned it but enjoyed playing it so much I didn't get around to it. The pic on the add shows the paint matching quite nicely, MINE DOES NOT. ... show more
