I really like this fan. Quiet even on high and moves a lot of air. My only gripe is that it has a 12 hr timer that can't be turned off. Not the end of the world but if I turn it on mid evening, it could turn off in the morning and the silence of the fan will wake me up. I'm not a light sleeper but I absolutely cannot sleep in silence. So if you're the same, make sure to press any button on it before you go to bed lol ... show more

Heavier built and more powerful than my Lasko upright. My son had a wall mount that could blow you away at close quarters and that's one reason a I paid a little more than usually for this fan. I am glad I did.

    • Assembly Frustrations? Here are Some Tips:

The directions for assembly omit some relevant information and some of the pieces are not clearly marked. The manufacturer’s website has ZERO information. So here’s what you need to know when you assemble this because the “spinner” has two way arrows on it for both unlock and lock. That’s ridiculous! Which is it? Counterclockwise or clockwise or pull off or what? The manual just tells you to remove it, but doesn’t say how. So here’s how: 1. Before you attach the fan head to the post, sit it in your lap. Grip the rod that the spinner is attached to with a something that’s will give you extra grip, but not damage the rod (I used a rag). 2. Rotate the spinner Clockwise to loosen it. Yep, that’s correct, Clockwise to loosen. This is the exception to the “righty-tighty, lefty-loosey” rule. Only the spinner is removed. The rod stays in place. 3. Remove the plastic cap at the base of the rod. Insert the fan housing back, lining it up with the indentations. Screw the cap back on. 4. Place the blades over the rod, then attach the spinner by screwing it on counterclockwise. 5. Then snap on the front housing, and tighten it with a small Phillips head screwdriver at the “latch” at the base of the housing (yes, the latch is at the most inaccessible part of the housing). Once you have it assembled it’s easy to operate for the 12 speeds except it’s annoyingly on some sort of timer by default. It is quiet. ... show more

This review is for the Hurricane 16 Inch Adjustable Standing Fan with 12 Speed Settings. It comes in several parts that need to be put together. Assembly should take you less than 10 minutes. The speed settings are exactly the reason I purchased this fan. I have had 3 or 4 speed fans in the past and they are always very loud even on the lowest setting. This is not the case with this fan and this is a huge selling point if you care about ambient noise. Speeds 1-3 are nearly silent. Every speed above that gets progressively louder but even at 7 or 8 you could watch TV but may need to turn it up. At lower speeds it is really a non-issue. The fan is adjustable in height but not in the way you may expect. To adjust it you need to unscrew sections of the pole holding it up. You take 2 sections off to have it be a table top fan. This is a neat feature on paper but I really dislike that it doesn't just telescope up and down like other fans. It limits the height you can put it at and is more frustrating to use because of that. Why I took off a star. The remote I received is broken and only works sometimes. I tried a new battery, nothing changed. The only way to change the speed on this fan with with the button on the fan if the remote does not work. There is only a single button so if you are on 3 and want it on 2 you have to hit the button 11 times to round robin to that lower number. At the price of this fan I would have expected an up and down arrow to change this. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This fan works really well. I usually like to keep the air circulating in my bedroom while I sleep and setting 1 is perfect for that! It's just a light enough breeze to move the air without being too powerful. In the video that's included with this review, I fast-forwarded through the part where I go through the different speed settings, but you really can't hear or see a huge difference on video until you get to 10,11,12 for the settings. Setting 12 should definitely be powerful enough to move the air around a fairly large room in a home. (I have no idea how well it would work for a commercial/public setting like a classroom or office building though.) As I mentioned in my title, I think most of this fan is made of plastic. Including the support posts. (Shown in my video as well). They do feel sturdy for plastic posts as they're made of a thick plastic, but still I thought for the price of this fan, they'd have nice metal post pieces or something? The cage around the fan blades themselves is metal but that's pretty much the only metal on this fan. Overall though, this is a really nice fan and it does work very well. I don't know if I'd say it's absolutely a must buy for what it is when you factor in the price, but it is definitely nice if you like to have a nice breeze to circulate the air while you're sleeping! I definitely will continue to use this in my bedroom while I'm sleeping. Even though it has the "all plastic" construction as I mentioned before, I am still definitely happy with it. ... show more
