Do you remember the days when a door lock was just a gizmo in which you put a key in to open the door? Good. Now forget it. This door lock talks to you when you lock or unlock it. You cannot unlock it by talking back (yet) but other than that, you can unlock it in any imaginable way: password, fingerprint, keycard, phone, and yes, just with an old fashion, ordinary key. Under the circumstances, the hardware part of the installation is the simplest part. The manual does a very good job using photos to guide you through all the stages of the installation. This is if you replace an existing lock with this one. If you have a completely new door, that will require a more laborious job, but they included a stencil to guide you. The only thing is that most common locks have a faceplate with rounded corners. This lock comes with a rectangular faceplate. You can either use just a boxcutter to carve square corners in the door or file the corners of the lock; if you have a Dremel, this is a three-minute job. Now comes the hard part: make sure that you get the lock to open in the correct direction. Out of the box, the lock knob does not move in any direction. It will only move after it figures out which way the door opens. The instructions detail the different procedures in case you have a left or right door but how can you tell which is which? Here is how: Stand with your back to the jamb that has the hinges. If the door is on your right, it’s right-handed. If the door is on your left, it’s left-handed. Make sure that the lock opens in the correct direction **before** adding the first user. After that, you may end up with a lock that can be operated only manually. Just in case you end up with a lock that operates in correct direction, but it says “locked” when it is unlocked, you can correct that by removing the plate, using the key to move the lock into the locked position (by turning it 90 degrees), and then reconnecting. And now you can relax and add users. You can do that either directly, by using the keypad, or via the Tuya app on your phone. Now for unlocking. If you choose the password, you need a six-digit one. The fingerprint works well when you set it up, but personally, I’ve found this method to be finnicky, and not only for locks. The keycard is the easiest method. Naturally, you can still unlock it the old-fashioned way by just using the door key. This lock has a shorter key, only 20 mm, but the experts don’t consider the size of the key as the main safety factor. You can open the lock using by the app associated with the lock, Tuya Smart, which connects to your phone using Bluetooth. That means that you need to be in the Bluetooth range. Tuya Smart can be liked with Alexa. Unfortunately, Alexa does not yet speak “Hurra”, so you cannot control the lock with Alexa. Aesthetically, I like that the exterior plate does not light up and thus does not reveal its identity until you touch it. Title: A Smart Lock That Offers Peace of Mind Review: When the HURRA Smart Lock first arrived, I was nervous about putting it together, even bore cracking it open. Then, when I finally took the plunge, the instructions, though short and with plenty of diagrams, seemed daunting and complex and had me wondering if I could successfully install it. I let the lock sit untouched for a few days, my fear of failure holding me back. After two unsuccessful attempts, I finally decided to take a deep breath and closely review the instructions. If Lily Tomlin could put in an automatic garage door opener in 9 to 5, I knew I had it in me to do this. What I discovered was that my anxiety had been causing me to overlook the simple solution right in front of me. I was so focused on aligning the locking mechanism pin that I completely ignored the two pins on either side - a critical misstep and, quite frankly, a dumb one, I'll admit. Once I realized this, the installation was shockingly easy. My new smart lock was up and running in less than five minutes. The lock offers multiple entry options: a key, an app, a fingerprint scanner, and a passcode. The traditional key works flawlessly, and the fingerprint and passcode options are reliable and easy to use. The app, however, leaves something to be desired. It's all right, but it could be better. I've been carrying the key as a backup after hearing a friend's story about being locked out due to drained batteries in his smart lock. I even opted for high-quality batteries instead of generic ones to avoid potential lockouts if the battery drains. Even though it indicates when the batteries are close to drained in the app, I err cautiously. The keycard feature is something I'm still figuring out. Once I master it or upgrade the app, I'll happily revise my rating. Per the app, there are times when it won't open at all. And though the app is straightforward, I don't see why you should hold down for an extended time to lock. Third, sometimes you'll click lock, and it'll do it, but then it'll spring back, locking the door again. In the meantime, I'm giving the HURRA Smart Lock a solid 4-star rating. It's straightforward to install once you pay close attention to the instructions, providing an added layer of security that gives me peace of mind. With my current alarm system (my senior dog) getting on in years, it's comforting to know that she's safe at home and that no one can sneak in to give her unauthorized treats or belly rubs in exchange for the Hope Diamond I have on loan from the Smithsonian. The HURRA Smart Lock has been a fabulous and convenient addition to our household, and I highly recommend it for its ease of installation and reliable performance. ... show more
