    • Supplementation with NR (NAD precursor) may only benefit old and/or unhealthy folks; young people probably have plenty of NAD
I am a 65 year old female who has had cancer twice, and have been in remission from stage 4 metastatic cancer for 11 years, due in part I believe to a regimen of supplements including resveratrol, quercetin, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, and many others. I also walk 3 miles per day, and have tried to avoid sugar and refined carbs for much of that time. Throughout the years I have been following anti-aging and anti-cancer research, as a curious layperson. I have explored writings and videos by David Sinclair of Harvard, Leonard Guarente of MIT, and others, leading me to the recent reports on the postulated benefits to humans of NAD precursor, Nicotinimide Riboside. Leonard Guarente himself takes it, according to his Elyseum website. I started taking the recommended dose in early February, 2015, and can report some positive results, although I believe the dosage level is critical and probably varies widely, depending on one’s age and health status. My experience has been that the prescribed dose of 250 mg. is simply too much. It revved me up, but the rebound effect was very noticeable--exhaustion. A suitable analogy might be constantly gunning and red-lining one’s old, inefficient engine. So I cut back to a half dose every other day. Much better. I still feel energetic--and optimistic--but am not completely exhausted hours later after the initial burst of energy has waned. It would certainly seem logical that younger, healthy, and/or athletic folks already have sufficient amounts of NAD, so they probably wouldn't notice much if any improvement from supplementation with NR. However, old folks have NAD deficiency as a result of aging, and probably see a much greater benefit from supplementation with NR. which increases NAD. I am guessing that most of the folks reporting little or no benefit from NR are either younger & healthy and have plenty of NAD; or, perhaps are taking far more than they need, producing some sort of negative hormesis-like response; or are not taking complementary doses of resveratrol, or other pterostilbenes, which operate in tandem with NAD as a substrate to influence anti-aging sirtuins. An update: I am now 68 and still taking NR from various makers, who add various components along with NR (all Niagen based) and at various dosages.. The 250 mg. dose is now my standard, however, and I no longer have the exhaustion effect. I don't know why, but it is gone and I am feeling great. I always take resveratrol daily, and many other supplements as noted above. I am also considering the other NAD precursor which is starting to become available, nicotinamide mononucleotide, but the price has got to come down significantly and some major advantage over NR demonstrated. Another possible effect from taking the 250 mg. NR dose is noteworthy: my fasting blood sugar is now running in the 60's and 70's regularly, but I do not feel bad. I have been doing a form of intermittent fasting for some time, but even when I have a regular meal, a few hours later my fasting glucose is back in the 60's & 70's. I test it daily. This may in fact serve as a long-term indicator of the continued efficacy of NR. I have never had fasting glucose levels this low, before taking 250 mg. of NR daily. ... show more

This is a dietary supplement that is called: Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide Go to the Internet and read about what this supplement is supposed to do with regard to perhaps the beneficial effects that that you might experience as you grow older. I have taken this supplement for several months and I have not noticed any side effects that would cause me to stop taking the supplement and I have not noted any beneficial side effects. Perhaps, the only beneficial side effects would appear on a very detailed blood chemistry, which I have NOT performed yet but will be performed at a later date. I plan to continue taking the supplement and this vendor and manufacturer are excellent as far as I know. ... show more

    • Took 1 capsule, had several strong reactions right away, immediate sleep, then some pains
Im 64, i took one capsule before breakfast and soon after i couldnt stay awake and slept for almost 2 hrs and then just lay there unable be fully awake enough to get up for another hour, a few hours later i started to feel very brief pains not in but near joint areas randomly around my body. Dont know what to make of all this, so far nothing i can call positive has happened, ive only taken the one capsule i wont be taking a second one today, ill have to decided about taking one again tomorrow. I can only give it 3 stars at this point till I learn more. I do like the new bottle though, the way you twist the top and the clear part opens up with a hole to let the capsules out, its a unique design. ... show more

    • This company changed its formula and Niagen is now missing!
My story may be of interest to many who are tempted by this product. I started taking HPN Niagen plus pterostilbene about three years ago and noticed an uplift in energy after the first week. My sense of smell was greatly enhanced and I started having vivid and pleasant dreams. A bounce returned to my step. I felt decades younger. But the effect went away after about two years. I read this can happen and so took TMG for methylation support. Nothing... Recently I read David Sinclair's books, watched his podcasts and started taking NMN and micronized Resveratrol. In a few days, my acute sense of smell returned and I felt fabulous. I was about to toss my remaining bottle of HPN's Niagen. First I wanted to check on how much Niagen I had been taking for the last year. To my dismay, the answer was zero! So I started reading online and learned that Chromadex, who had originally supplied HPN with Niagen, quit doing so in December 2018. This was because of a complicated lawsuit Chromadex has with Elysium, the company which sells Basis. At any rate, Chromadex, now sells Niagen directly to consumers and no longer to third parties. Their product is called Tru-Niagen. I am truly astonished that HPN did not inform its customers of the important change in formulation. Their current bottles look identical to those I purchased three years ago. You would have to read very small print to see that Niagen is no longer included. So when the company calls posts like this scams, do not believe them. They are cheating you. You can read up on this yourself and verify that Chromadex stopped selling Niagen to HPN in December 2018. There are zero studies validating their replacement formulation, but lots of claims in their advertising. They must have enjoyed a few years of high ratings and great reviews and did not want to see an end to it. Walk away! ... show more
