This microscope is best suited for ages 4 and up. It comes with an internal battery that can be charged with a usb-c cable (included). But there is no charger brick. Once powered on, you have the option to change magnification or take a photo of the image. To focus the item, you simply pull or collapse the main handle until the object is focused. The bottom has an integrated LED light also to light up what you're trying to magnify. This microscope only works on flat objects. If it is not flat, it's hard to focus. This microscope is easy to use as a stand-alone device because of its built-in battery and storage. Simply power on and set over the item you want to see magnified, focus the unit on the target then select the magnification desired from 1-4x (1-4x of what? I am not certain but I am fairly certain way short of 1000x). Charging the internal battery is easy via a std USB-C port. This is a great concept but when I tested it, I found it really difficult to see anything with any clarity. You literally have to have it right on the object to see it and even then it is not easy to get it to come in very clear. I think my grandkids will give up on it pretty quickly. It looked like you would be able to see bugs and things that move as well as stationary objects but unless you put it right on the bug and pin it down, you can't see it.
