Greetings, My little safe arrived yesterday. Very modern and appealing design with a nifty blue powdered paint job. (An array of other colors are available.) It has "invisible" hinges and two chrome-steel bars that lock it quite securely. Once locked, a miscreant will have to literally tear it apart which will not be easy, due to the heavy gauge steel box. Programming it for your combination is straight forward. Press the "C" code key and enter a code 3 to 8 digits long. Press the "E" enter key, and the program light changes from yellow to green signalling its approval. If you flub inputting the combo, repress the "C" key and try again. Don't forget to press the "E" enter key when done. If you cannot remember your code later, write it down and keep it in secure location. Don't put your written code or backup security keys inside the vault for safe keeping! Don't laugh, it has happened before! To open your safe, key in your combination, press the "E" enter key. The safe beeps and shows a green light. You have 5 seconds to rotate the knob counter clockwise to open the bolts. Otherwise, you must enter your code again. Now if you are a miscreant, slime-ball who tries to open the safe in the dead of night. You have 3 tries on the keypad. If the code is incorrect, the slime-ball now must wait 20 seconds before he can try again. Three more incorrect entries and the miserable wretch must wait 5 minutes before any further attempts. At this point the low-life slob will just take the safe home and really have a go at it. To prevent this the safe has two holes in the rear and the bottom so that you can screw the thing to the wall or the floor. It comes with two expansion bolts. Now your little safe becomes an immovable object. The pitiable loser will just give up and go home - empty handed - to drink himself to death. Now what if the batteries go dead and the keypad does not work? You can periodically test it with the security keys provided and inserted. If the batteries have seen better days, the safe's light with glow red. signalling replacements. And, in a pinch, you can operate the safe independent of the keypad by just inserting one of the security keys. A rubber plug covers the keyhole. But let us not get too lazy. This is the best investment I have made this week. Been burgled twice in two years. It won't happen again. The price is just a bargain. Since I do not have a gun vault, I feel confident that, bolted to its 100 pound bookcase, it is secure enough for a pistol too. I do have two minor criticisms: 1. The knob seems loose and a bit wonky when disengaged from the lock mechanism, so it does not affect operation. Hey, it isn't a $20,000 Brinks safe either. Its security comes down to the two chrome-steel bolts, so it does the job. 2. I wish this safe had a second shelf inside. (A little work project for later.) I did see another brand with a second shelf no bigger, but it cost twice the price. And it was a sh:tty tan color. I love my little blue safe! My primary purpose for getting this safe box was to essentially upgrade from the very basic lockbox that I use for my 9 mm pistol that could only hold the pistol. Plus, I wanted to also add some other collectibles that I had scattered in various places in my house. Overall, it was easy to set up and I had no issues programming my pin code. It’s fairly lightweight, but does provide the option to bolt it to a floor or desk; two holes are provided (see photo) along with toggle bolts. When I first opened the door and looked inside, I was concerned that my pistol wouldn’t fit. But I have a Kimber Micro 9; basically a handgun for small hands. And I was able to fit the gun, the clip, and a box of ammo just fine with room for more boxes just to give gun owners a sense of interior size. If you’re a Glock person, I would say any of the Glocks that are for small hands like the Micro 9 can fit inside the safe with easy pullout. Anything larger might be a struggle if the goal is a quick grab and go. This isn’t a safe for beefy hands in my opinion. If you’re a coin collector and need a place to store your most valuable coins, you can definitely store quite a bit in the safe as well as any important pieces of jewelry might possess. Just a caution: make sure that you have AA batteries in the house because batteries do not come with the safe; you’ll need them for the combo lock (see photo of interior door). The panel will let you know when the batteries need to be replaced and there is a key override feature in case you need to open manually. The only thing I didn’t like were the cosmetic flaws that I noticed upon closer inspection.
