UPDATE: I am updating from 4 to 5 stars. After about 18 months, the auto-sensor control started malfunctioning. The lid returned to the open position (instead of parked position "closed") and stayed open. Unplugging, turning on-off, manual close button did not fix--it always returned to open. I called HomeLabs and within 5 minutes without a lot of fuss, they honored the 2 year warranty and are sending a complete new unit. Never forget the value of customer service! Original Review: Stainless is of good quality, moving parts and sensor works fine. Even after a year, we are a little confused on the length of time the top stays open. More than once, I've thrown garbage on it just as it snaps closed. (Yes, there are countdown lights but somehow it's tricked me more than once.) A few tips: 1. Definitely get 18 gallon or bigger bags. It says 13 gallon size but you'll have to fight with it to force them on. Buy 18+ gallon size bags. (We have some trouble finding the larger size in our local supermarkets and even big box stores.) 2. I see some complaints that sensor requires you to be within 3-4 inches. I have a 3 year old grandson and a 125 lb Great Dane. The boy likes to watch it open and close and the dog triggers it if he walks too close. So for me, I don't want the sensor to be more sensitive at a greater distance. 3. We originally had the can under a center island counter overhang where there was no electrical outlet. It was pretty well hidden but when open, the flaps under the under counter top restricted access so we moved it against a wall. 4. When we moved it (as above) to a spot more convenient, there happened to be an electrical outlet right behind it. The sensor sensitivity seems to weaken and it also opens and closes sluggishly as the batteries drain. If you plan on placing the can convenient to an outlet, you might want the AC adapter. It takes 4 C cells -- we replace about 3-4 months and are now ordering the adapter. ... show more

I like the look I wish it would sense from the front or the top at the same time. You can adjust which direction it senses by sliding your finger forward or backward over the ball to rotate it to the top or the front. The distance you can wave is about 4-6 inches and it has to be a slower wave or it won't open at all. ... show more

I love that it's a tall can instead of short and wide, it fits very nicely in a big area and a small area, it's easy to use and easy to keep clean, it's a bit on the expensive side other than that I love it. I definitely recommend this product

We've had this trash can for close to two years, and it's operated as it should with no problems. Recently, the plastic rim-piece, which holds the bag in place, snapped in a critical spot, and it could no longer hold a trash bag with any weight inside. I contacted the company to try and obtain a new plastic rim piece, and even though it's outside of the 1 year replacement warranty, they REPLACED THE ENTIRE TRASH CAN FOR FREE!!! I agree with other reviewers that this is a high quality product that works just as claimed. It's quiet and quick in opening and closing either with the touch switches or the motion sensor. But what's really important to me is that the company, HomeLabs, stands behind it. Our lid stopped working after 9 months of use. I contacted the company and only 5 days later we have a brand new unit. All that they asked for was the invoice (easily available on the Amazon site) and serial number. No need to send back the old unit, no questioning whether we had mistreated it in some way. I would definitely buy from this. company again! ... show more

This can was great when we first got it. opened and closed properly, no issues. About a year and half after getting it we noticed it would get fickle with the opening and closing, sometimes opening halfway, or randomly opening when no one was in the room. at the two year mark, it would hardly open a third of the way and you would have to open it the rest of he way with your hand. Now it has stopped opening completely, you have to use the button to open it about 1/2 inch, then open it manually with your hand, it does still close by itself so that's something. We have cleaned the sensors and checked the connections and they all seem to be in order. For over $100 for a trash can I expected it to last longer than 2 years, it appears there is no warranty past the one year mark and no option for replacement parts? ... show more
