This trash can is simple and easy to use. We Love the "step" feature that allows us to throw away trash without touching the can. Their is NO motion detection tech to go wrong!. ( we recently threw 1 of those away that wa only 2 years old) The 13 gallon kithchen bags fit very nicely and are to install and remove for emptying to the the curb can. The lock top works very well.     • The World's Most Perfect Kitchen Trash Can!!!!!!

Even though my wife and I have been married for 35 years, we still disagree about things around the house. One of those disagreements had to do with the waste basket we used in the kitchen. Me, being the slob around the house, my main pre-requisite for a trash is that it is available, and convenient. This means it cannot be in a cabinet and it cannot have a lid that I have to open with my hands every time. Sometimes using my hands to open a lid isn't practical, or possible. My wife on the other hand, feels that a lid on the trash can is very important. Understandably so because it covers the unsightly trash and it reduces the odors that will sometimes emanate from the trash in the can. However, if I'm carrying something that requires two hands, or my hands have food residue on them, the cover on a trash can drives me nuts. So, the only reasonable option for us was to find a trash can with the foot actuated lid. That sounds much easier than it really was. We searched for months but could not find one that was practical. Most were flimsy and I knew would not hold up very long. Also, all of the ones we looked at were too small and so would require too many bag changes. If we did find one that was big enough and sturdy, it would be way too expensive. Finally one day my wife told me she had ordered a foot operated trash can from Amazon. When it came I was AMAZED. This trash can is perfect in EVERY way. Even though the unit is made from some kind of plastic material, it is sturdy. The frame around the bottom is a solid steel as is the pedal that you step on to open the lid. In addition to sturdy, this trash can is big. it is a perfect size for a kitchen and our "Tall Kitchen" trash bags just fit. The band of the bag folds over the top edges and stays in place until it is time to remove the full bag and replace it. The final feature which earns this trash can the title of "World's Perfect Kitchen Trash Can" is that for those times when you have several things to put in the can, or you are peeling vegetables into the can and you want the lid to stay open, it will. If you open the lid with your hand, instead of your foot, the lid will stay open. That feature is pure genius. We have had this trash can for a year now and I'm still as impressed with it as I was at the beginning. Nothing has malfunctioned or shown any signs of wear yet. Pros: 1. Well built, very sturdy construction 2. Good size, fits a standard tall kitchen trash bag 3. Great design and veratility: - Lid opens smoothly with foot pedal - Lid closes smoothly using air dampening technology -Lid will stay open if opened all the way by hand 4. A little pricey, but worth it. I got this because my two dogs decided after 6 years that they would knock over my old "locking" trashcan and I came into a complete disaster of spilled trash everywhere several times. The lock was pathetic. Very easy to open. This trashcan is very sturdy, nicely made, the trash bags seem to hold way more even though my old can was a 13 gallon as well, and the lock is amazing. It is hard for me to open without using both hands. The locking mechanism is great. There's no way any pet could get in this trash unless they chewed through it. I LOVE this trash can! I can’t believe I’m writing a review for a trash can but here we are. We had a fancy (expensive) motion activated stainless steel number that ended up being total junk in less than a year. It drove me absolutely insane. This one doesn’t have any ridiculous electronic bells and whistles, it’s simple and does its job. It stays clean (stainless steel collects EVERYTHING), it will stay open if you need it to, has a latch to lock for pets or kids, has a slow close, has a little bumper guard thing on the back so it doesn’t scratch up a wall/cabinet, it’s just perfect. So, funny story. I bought this because my husky somehow BROKE my other trash can by stepping on the pedal too hard while the lid was locked. And he did that because he wanted to dig for trash. He also has a bad habit of knocking over trash cans to get into them. So my solution was to buy a trash can with sturdier lid locking mechanism, and to place 2 heavy bricks on the bottom of it. So far, so good! He hasn't knocked this one over. Anyway, onto the product. Pros: - Aesthetically, the design is nice. - Silent lid operation. Now this one surprised me. I didn't even know the trash can had this feature until I tried it out and the lid gently closed down. Amazing. No more funky smells getting aired out as the lid closes. Plus it just seems so.. elegant. - The slide lock is super strong. Like, almost too secure. See cons list for more details. - Good quality. I was afraid my bricks would eventually damage it, but I've had this trash can for awhile now and it's holding up just fine. Cons: - Price. Well, you can also see it as an investment in quality I guess. - Might have to experiment with different trash bags to get the right fit for the unique shape. - The slide lock is difficult to push and pull. It makes it super secure, but dang does it make a loud sound when I slide it shut! And to get it open I can't just use one hand (not even with the bricks weighing the trash can down). I have to hold the trash can with my other hand to slide the lock open or else I'll just drag the entire trash can. That's how secure it is. - While it seems like the trash can will fit nicely against walls, you actually have to leave some space for the lid. When the lid opens, it pushes the wall and the trash can outwards if you don't leave some space between the trash can and the wall. I hope the product team will deal with this eventually. Still, in comparison to other brands, which I've had my fair share of experience with, this one truly stands out. I've tried those with motion sensors, and while they feel futuristic, nothing beats the reliability of a simple step mechanism. Plus, those sensors can get finicky and don’t even get me started on battery replacements. ... show more
