The mat is attractive and does a good job keeping everything off the floor. The only problem is that “new product” plastic smell. When I introduced the cat to his new food location, at first he wasn’t convinced. He smelled his food dish, then smelled the mat, then walked away. It doesn’t help that we moved it to a different spot than usual. He went back to his old feeding grounds and sniffed the ground for stray pieces of food. Thankfully I was eventually able to convince him. I washed off the new product smell as much as possible, and spilled some cat food on the mat to cover up the smell. Then I lured him in with a couple cat treats, and he finally ate some food. Now we just need to make sure he remembers where to find it! I know that indoor cats often struggle to see objects less than 12” from their face, so that might be part of the issue. The odor from the new mat is disguising the smell of his food. But I’m sure he will get used to it and the odor will also fade over time. ... show more

    • Excellent mats! But my cat doesn't agree

I love these things. I can finally put their food bowls on something to catch the excess food. And when my cats push or remove food from the bowl, I can just fold this up and dump the excess food right back in! It's a thick rubber so it is naturally non-skid, but still flexible enough to fold for controlled dumping. However, my cats have made it a point to make a mess even with this thing. Somehow they are getting food out of the bowl *and* the mat now, causing food to end up underneath it. And when food ends up underneath, the rubber doesn't want to stay put as well. Not that this is a product defect at all! This is a very well-made item! The cats just make it a point to ruin all of my ideas. Maybe I just need to buy more and spread them out.... ... show more

Bought the Indigo Ink color 22"x14" tray. Color is nice blue. Wasn't dark and dull. Not the thickest of material, but not terribly thin either. When unrolled from packaging, the sides were not flat as some reviewers experienced. It looks like a hard tray until you try to pick it up like one and then it goes all floppy on you. While I would have preferred it to be a hard tray, I'm not mad that it isn't. My dog is a sloppy drinker and this mat holds any spillage which I can easily wipe up. ... show more

It's a good size and great quality! The only downside is that it stains terribly. We used it for our shoes rather than a place for a dog bowl, and after putting muddy shoes on it once, it stained. It's just a place for shoes, so it's not a big deal, but the stains are ugly. If you are planning for it to stay clean and cute, I'd suggest getting a darker color. ... show more

First, let me explain that I am a person who often doesn't use something for it's intended purpose. This is no exception. I live in western NY and believe me when I say that winter and spring are the times when you most want a good boot/shoe tray. One that doesn't slide around and also contains mud and moisture. Forget how well it absorbs, you primarily want something that keeps the snow or mud contained. Enter this silicone mat. Recently I had a get-together and this mat held EIGHT pairs of shoes effortlessly. After everyone left, the mat was a wet, muddy mess but a few shakes outside, a spray bottle of plain water and a couple of paper towels and it was clean and ready for more shoes. And, the best part is, it doesn't slip and slide around, even if one of the cats peels out on it. It has a “lip” which contains any moisture so if you buy this for a dog mat, you are not going to be disappointed when your dog slops water all over the place, as long as the water bowl sits on this mat.
