You have to make sure that it is totally submerged in water, so make sure you have at least 5 inches of water, if horizontal. Using this for our open turtle tank and it hasn’t disappointed much at all. If it’s not submerged in water it can start to build up a burn like film, so be on point and make sure your water level is adequate. Sometimes the water can seem to go cold, so I am sure to check it here and there, but when I raise it up (steady 81 degrees) it stays good. At present I've only used it once. This a for testing purposes. I had no problem with the operation. At present it is being used as a digital thermometer for the aquarium. If I have any issues with it when the weather gets cold I will update this review.

testing it out at the moment and it works as intended! i filled up my 20 gal tank and the water temp was originally 57 and is now around 64 working it’s way up to 77! it’s been a couple of hours but honestly it’s gonna take a while to heat up 20 gals lets be honest 😂
