These casters are decent at the price and roll smoothly on laminate flooring. Can't say for carpet, I suspect they wouldn't work quite as well due to their narrow width. They squeak a little if you change directions on smooth flooring, that's typical of these 'rollerblade' style urethane wheels. Also typical of this design is the fact that changing direction sometimes isn't very smooth depending on what direction you are going relative to where they are pointing but that's a result of the geometry. The standard 7/16" x 7/8" pins fit with no problem and were snug without being difficult to insert. I like the fact that the wheels are supported by two caged bearings, one on each side of the wheel. The bearing for the swivel does not have a lot of slop and clearance is tight. That should prevent the issue of the balls falling out also. The blue ones would probably have looked better but I'm good with orange too. ... show more

I should have bought these years ago! I just upgraded my home office chair and bought these orange wheels to match. I also live in an apartment building and my desk is positioned exactly above my downstairs neighbor’s bed. He sleeps during the day and works at night and I was worried my constant wheeling would bother him. I also noticed the plastic wheels were starting to scuff up the hardwood floor. I have three different work stations in my office and need to wheel back and forth to them throughout the day. These wheels have been amazing! They are buttery smooth on low pile carpet and hardwood, they are completely silent, and they make my chair look 10x cooler! They installed in seconds, just push them into place and you’re ready to roll! They came quickly and were well packaged and bubble wrapped so there was no scuffing or anything like that. Where have these been all my life! If you’ve been thinking in investing in a better chair and wheel set up, stop thinking and just buy it! You’ll love it! UPDATE: I asked my downstairs neighbor if he could hear me wheeling around upstairs and he confirmed that he hasn't heard anything in several days, so pretty much when I switched over to these wheels. Considering there is no sound dampening features in this building (like, you can pretty much always hear the muffled sound of someone's TV or talking in this building), that's a pretty good endorsement! ... show more

I have engineered wood in my den that is about 16 years old. So I bought this expensive glass chair matt to protect it, knowing all along I'd eventually replace the wood anyway. Well, the chair mat was several hundred bucks, and these wheels would have done MOST of the same thing. That is, anything from shoes, foods, or drink you are still on your own. With my wood--would not have been a probem. Bottom line is I am getting ready to put in porecelain tile that looks just like wood, but still want some protection from wheels that could cause issues over time. So these wheels do the trick. Just got them, they popped right on to another chair I ordered over the past year, and they are silent and smooth. I am pretty impressed! Once the old wheels were off, these fit perfectly right and were easy to push on. Immediately, there was no scraping, no sound of friction whatsoever on the floor. My old wheels were not freely spinning and caused a lot of noise that I just got tired of. these wheels are brilliant. Slick, no noise, easy to install and my chair rolls around like butta. Note: I have an older office chair and I would subtract a half-star for "easy to install" as these are replacement wheels and the word installation includes removing the old and putting on new. Keep in mind it wasn't "hard" to remove the old wheels, it's just that I needed to use a screwdriver, or similar wedge device to pry the old wheels off. Not quite as simple as "just pull off the old ones", which implies to me to just use two fingers and gently pull them out...some force was required. Your chair might release the old wheels more easily than mine... ... show more

    • Work decent on carpet

I needed a good set of wheels for my new computer chai since my computer area is in an area that has a medium pile carpet with a pad, I needed a bigger wheel to help with settling these wheels do the job adequately. I wish the tread part was a little harder and could slide more, but so far they do well. Time will tell if they last or improve. Big guy here so durability will be tested. Edit, I'd like to explain the "decent on carpet, I'm a big guy and the carpet is about a medium shag with a little padding, think normal house carpet. I know being a big guy I can't assume the wheels will just flip around when i move, so I usually push away a slight bit further. this way as I sit, i can pull the chair up and the wheels do their flip move without my weight on them. so long as I do that they work fine, but if I forget they do not like to turn. If the wheels were a little harder compound, this might not be needed. Still worth 5 stars, because compared to the stock wheels (tried them when I assembled it) these roll so much better ... show more
