Bought this out of necessity because I was tired of dealing with the cheap, flimsy hose reels from Home Depot. When the hose reel was delivered, I opened the box and found that the end of the hose was damaged in shipping. I contacted Giraffe tools by phone and they got back to me within 15 minutes. They had me submit a support ticket on their website with pictures of the damage and they were eager to get the problem resolved. They offered me a full replacement and had it shipped out in no time. The whole process took less than 3 days and the replacement showed up 5 days later. This is a true testament to customer service and a quality product. I purchased two of these and within a week I purchased another one. I replaced another brand that had a 1/2 hose that had burst several times. When I did my research I wanted a thicker hose but not as thick as 3/4 so this 5/8 was just want I was looking for. It’s solid, easy to mount and locks and retracts very smoothly. It’s comes with a nozzle and a leader hose and mounting hardware so it has everything you need to get in installed. I recommend this product! ... show more

I debated a lot of models and decided to try this after much researching... I purchased the 90ft 5/8 hose with a metal bracket option. I would never trust a plastic bracket, ever. This reel doesn't always reliably track correctly back into the reel, when it is rewinding. It will occasionally bind up when pulling the hose to extend the full length because of it. The 5/8 diameter that this reel incudes, is most definitely not 5/8 on the inside. The hose leader is also severely restricted and I plan on replacing that entirely. The water pressure from the included hose combination is depressing at best. Very disappointed for the money I spent on the this and I am really debating the option to return it right now. The strength power on the reel to rewind is very strong I'll give it that. The metal bracket I opted for is also built really solid as well. ... show more

I previously had a different brand of the same type of water hose with an automatic reel. It lasted one season of hard winter here in the upper Michigan area. And yes, I left it out. When the spring came even though there wasn’t any water in it? Most of the unit cracked, the hose was in good shape, but the unit itself, and it was one of those with no replaceable parts. After doing some research, this brand came up and since I had bought nozzles and spray heads from this brand, I trusted it. I’m glad I was able to get this one because what I can tell you is there are no negatives in my case. One of the best things I bought from my house. I have this mounted on a Fitz post that is concreted in the ground a little over 2 feet and is about 4 feet above ground. So I used a 6 foot pole and I have it mounted and bolted to it. It does swing back-and-forth and I’ve got it in a great location. I chose this model for one reason and that is because of the length and the size. I needed something to go from my house out to my garage, which is at the hundred feet if not a few more than that. And this goes out there and then some. It seems pretty heavy duty. And no I will not leave this out in the winter. But we have used this brand this summer and spring then we use the other brand and I will tell you it held up really well. The concept of this is good. The retraction is strong. However I have mine in my garage, Right by the man door and as it is heated I never have to take it in for the winter. However, I noticed when I first bought it, two things: The hose nozzle that comes with it is junk and has the worst pressure and also that the quality of the hose itself was junk. Sure enough, not even 12 months later the hose lining split apart in a hole burst as you can see in the photos. The shell, The concept and the retraction on this I great but the guts which is the hose is terrible quality. Now somehow I have to replace the actual hose itself, even though the shell and the traction are good. I would never buy another Giraffe Tools product again, especially for the price. Easy to install on wall. The bracket is made of metal so it is very strong. The hose pulls out and rewinds easily but be sure to hold on the hose as you rewind it as the spring is very strong. The instructions even warn not to just let the hose go while it is rewinding. Feels that this unit is well built. ... show more

I stared at these for years and always thought "won't the plastic sag". My buddy has one outdoor and his plastic is good as new after many years so probably not, but I didn't buy one until they did they did the metal bracket in 2024. I'm so glad I waited! Love the peace of mind. It should last awhile. Depending on location, you will have a fun engineering challenge when mounting. I did inside of a garage so put a 32x18" 3/4" plywood hitting 3 studs. The right two 4" screws on the bracket hit the plywood, drywall, then the stud. the left side is using the heavy duty 1/4" drywall toggle things. ... show more
