    • The hose reel box I've been looking for.

After years of dealing with, and cursing at, the cheap plastic boxes that take three hands to rewind, I decided to splurge on a more substantial product. This is it. Solid, heavy duty metal that doesn't move around when you unwind or rewind the hose. The cranking mechanism is smooth. The connections are metal and so far leak-proof. There was really not much to assemble - just attach the hand crank and hose to the reel and you're good to go. This model doesn't have wheels, so look elsewhere if you want to roll it around the yard. This is meant to stay in place, and it does. A word about customer service. The box is held together with 20 or so machine screws. One was missing on my unit. I doubt it would have caused any problems to just leave it, but for 200 bucks I wanted no compromises, but neither did I want to box up the whole thing and return it. Rather than go through the time and expense to mail me a single screw, they gave me the size specs and offered a $10 refund for my trouble. Deal! A quick trip to the hardware store, 2 minutes with a screwdriver, and I was in business. I came out about $8.50 ahead and have a bunch of of extra screws for the tool box. Overall, I really like the product. Pulling it out of the box, you could tell that it is well made and the outside coating should last. I did have a slightly bent back panel of the unit after shipment of the unit but it didn’t affect the functionality or fit of the parts, so I didn’t bother. The unit itself is mostly assembled when you get it. You only have to add on the crank harm with a screwdriver and a provided screw and attach the hose/water input into the unit. The winding mechanism works very smoothly. Mine still had some extra grease on the slider so that it didn’t get stuck anywhere as you turn the crank and wind up the hose. The only downside that I have found is that there are some 90 deg bends, and an even sharper going to your hose from the central spool inner diameter that it seems to have decreased the water pressure going through the hose. Not the end of the world, but it does mean that I have to move the sprinkler more since the spray doesn’t reach as far. It seems that there might have been a way to try to smooth out some of the bends, maybe with a hose instead of pipe/conduit. But overall I am happy with the purchase. The media could not be loaded. After decades of using various hose winders, I’ve grown to like this style the most. But this all-metal construction is new, so when I was in the market for a new hose winders I had to try it out. Is it pricey? Yes. They weren’t kidding when they said it’s built well! This thing is solid! I also appreciate how accessible the internals are. So is it worth the price? That’s a yes from me! The solid construction means minimal flex as you roll heavy hoses. And that means the winding function is so so sooooo smooth! It’s also the first hose winders I’ve had with no leaks, which is very welcome. Even cooler-you can adjust the input angle for the input hose to the side! Now that’s a neat touch! ... show more

    • Giraffe Tools Hose Container: Defective Junk and Shameful Warranty Service

Let me start by saying that my experience with Giraffe Tools hose container has been nothing short of a nightmare. From the defective product to the abysmal warranty service, this company has managed to disappoint at every turn. Upon receiving the hose container, I was initially impressed by its design and promised functionality. However, my optimism quickly turned to frustration when I discovered that the unit was defective. The reel mechanism was jammed, rendering the entire container useless. The belt would fall off the spline while rotating, the spline wasn’t fastened to shaft. In my attempt to resolve the issue, I reached out to Giraffe Tools customer service. After explaining the problem and providing a video showcasing the malfunction, their response was shockingly inadequate. Instead of acknowledging the defect and offering a prompt solution, they suggested sending me a replacement belt. A replacement belt for a jammed reel? Are they serious? When I insisted that a belt would not fix the underlying issue, they backtracked and said they would need to send a screw from China for me to fix it myself. Yes, you read that right. They expected me to wait for an international shipment of a single screw to repair their shoddy product and do a tear down of the unit. Frustrated by their incompetence, I turned to Amazon for assistance. To my relief, Amazon promptly resolved the issue and provided me with a satisfactory solution. Their customer service was efficient, understanding, and focused on resolving the problem, unlike Giraffe Tools. What's even more disappointing is that Giraffe Tools boasts a two-year warranty for their products. However, when it came time to honor that warranty and replace the defective unit, they failed miserably. A warranty is only as good as the company's willingness to stand behind its products, and Giraffe Tools fell short in this regard. In conclusion, I cannot in good conscience recommend Giraffe Tools hose container or any of their products.Their lackluster quality control, dismissive customer service, and failure to honor warranty commitments are clear indicators of a company that prioritizes profits over customer satisfaction. Save yourself the headache and avoid Giraffe Tools at all costs. ... show more

This hose reel is replacing an all plastic one that lasted about 10 years. Plastic one was about $60 bucks, this one was on sale for $160. So I'm hoping this metal one will last longer. It's very compact and heavy duty. I only hope the metal does not rust out in 5 years. Hose reel went together very well and no leaks when fully assembled... ise a wrench to be sure. It seems like a good product so far but I feel time will tell! ... show more
