  • Scalp Sensitivity | Fades Quickly on Grey Hair | Overwhelming Fragrance
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Color: 8.22
I ordered colors 3.11, 6.0, 7.20, 8.22, and 9 1/2.1 several months ago. I was looking for an anomie-free permanent hair color that is comparable to the brand that I've been buying for several years now. I am looking to replace my long-time go-to because it's become increasingly difficult to find in stores. Side note: I'm comfortable and confident when it comes to coloring hair at home. I have colored my own hair and friends and family's hair for over 10 years. And was greatly surprised when I was told a master hair dresser (19+ years experience and owner of a high-end salon in the city of LA) complimented my work several times. After having colored my hair (nearly three months ago) and my mom's hair (about four months ago) here are my impressions - Pros: + Ammonia-free + Pink shades - for an ammonia-free, at home box kit I haven't seen this color range offered by other brands. + Relatively easy to find in convince stores though the options/ range of colors can be limited at physical stores - hence my order from Amazon (a wide range of colors/choices) + Cheaper per box than other ammonia-free at home hair color kits I've been using - if you have fine hair, Olia might work well for you Cons: - For hair that is predominately grey I would not recommend Olia - my mom chose 3.11 and we noticed the color visibly faded after each wash. After about two weeks, her hair color looked very brassy. I went back to my go-to box hair color to color my mom's hair a couple weeks ago and immediately noticed how much richer our old favorite's color is. - Formula is thin and runny making it difficult to ensure even coverage (I use a hair coloring brush purchased at a licensed-professionals-only beauty supply store [friend who owns her own salon, helped put me in contact with the owner]) - Wasteful - I could not get all the colorant out of the bottle and into a plastic hair coloring bowl - Need more boxes to completely saturate thick, healthy, naturally wavy hair which reaches past the waist. (reference: old go-to hair color: 3-4 boxes. Olia: 6 boxes). One box was not enough product to completely saturate short, chin-length, predominately grey/greying hair. - Even after several shampoos immediately after dying my hair with colors 6.0, 7.20, and 8.22 my scalp was still sensitive to the formulation three days later. I experienced throbbing pain on my scalp (which I have never experienced with any other hair dye--at home or salon-only--applied by myself or by seasoned professionals. - Overall, complete saturation of thick, long, and/or wavy/curly hair requires way more boxes than I have even needed before (with other brands). - Do not recommend for those who are sensitive to fragrances - Do not record for those who have sensitive skin I was hesitant to try the pink shades I ordered (7.20 and 8.22) because of critical reviews--here on Amazon-- which stated the colors didn't show up pink at all. Maybe the formula I received was updated or different than that of the critical reviews I read. For me, however, the colors did leave a really pretty wash of pink as I had hoped they would. I initially ordered the hair colors on Amazon's Subscribe and Save Auto delivery service but because we were so sorely disappointed by the texture/formula of the product and its overall performance, I cancelled my subscriptions. However, after receiving a lot of compliments on my current shade, I decided to give Olia's hair color another try. If, however, my head and scalp throb again after using Olia a second time, I will not be re-purchasing even if the shade is pretty. All in all, for hair that is pronominally grey, I absolutely do not recommend Olia permanent hair color. I found it to be a complete waste of time and money. Even though Olia costs 60% less per box than the go-to I had been buying, Olia requires more product (i.e. more boxes), VISIBLY fades after each shampoo, and absolutely did not provide the needed coverage desired for more mature/predominantly grey or greying hair. And although the pink shades are pretty, I I'm not comfortable recommending them because of the issues with sensitivity I experienced. Lastly, because of how quickly Olia fades, I would recommend it to those who want to lighten their hair, not to those who wish to dye their hair darker than it's current or natural shade or to those wishing to cover/conceal grey hair. Also, because of how thin and runny Olia's formulation is, please take note if one's hair is not fine or thin, one will definitely need more than one box to saturate his/her stands evenly or well. ... show more

  • very, VERY pleased with this nice cool toned brown
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Color: 4
The media could not be loaded. Purchased 4.0 Dark Brown For the longest time I used a natural hair colorant and then one day it did not seem to get the deep brown shade that I longed for. I am 43 years old and my once medium brown hair is probably 50% grey from age, stress, and pain. I started dabbling in other brands and this is the first time I have tried Garnier Olia. I must say I am very happy with the color. The brown is cool toned which is what I need. I guess you would call me a "cool winter" as far as color. I run between pale skin in the winter to a medium skin tone in the summer with pink undertones. I have grey eyes. I look good in colors such as black, blue-red, deep purple, just about all blues, etc. I colored my hair a few days ago and when rinsing it out. I just used conditioner. I find this helps the color sit and take longer. I then washed it 2 days later with a mild shampoo followed by conditioner. In the last number of days, I have actually gotten a number of compliments on my hair, which, it has been a long time since that happened. I used to get compliments all the time, but as I got older it slowly stopped. Now that I have gone back darker, THIS seems to be my shade and, I am going to stick with it for awhile. I have hair that is past my waist and this whole kit seemed to cover my roots and actually do my entire head with a pretty even color. I think, it you wanted a more uniform, deep color and your hair is super long, perhaps a bottle and a half to two? I was actually happy with the one bottle. I have never paid to have my hair colored. I have always done it myself. It is so easy these days. This brand did not seem to damage my hair. Since it is long and I am 'older' I am pretty particular about my hair products. I follow my washes with Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil and usually something by Living Proof and then I sleep on it all overnight. I wash at night to let my hair pick up some natural oils since my hair is normal to dry in nature. Using this hair color did not change my hair texture, if anything, it feels a little better, a little less frizzy at the ends. This is good. Overall ... I will be purchasing this brand and this color again. Very pleased. Please see the video for before and afters. I think I probably had an inch of grey grown out and my previous color and brand had faded a lot. ... show more
