I’ve only box dyed my hair a couple of times but never tried black so I was a bit anxious to try this as my wedding is in a month. My hair is very long and fairly thick (hip length). The two boxes saturated my entire head of hair. I previously had fire engine red in my hair and the black has no problem covering that up as well as my dark brown roots. My hair feels very soft and not too damaged considering how much I have bleached and dyed it. I only let it process about 15 minutes because it took me so long to apply it to all my hair that I didn’t want it to sit too long on the starting pieces but that didn’t effect the results at all. The smell was bearable even in my tiny bathroom (window open, fan on, door open). Part B was hard to squeeze out of the tube especially while wearing a dye covered glove so I would recommend mixing both boxes of dye before you start dying your hair. The instructions recommend using conditioner on areas of skin that might come in contact with the dye to prevent staining, which I did. However that didn’t seem to make a difference, I am covered in light brownish stains, so use Vaseline not conditioner. After I washed my hair and conditioned it with the conditioner provided (which was very thick and detangled my hair amazingly I love that conditioner) it did not bleed onto my towel, which is great considering my previous color of red absolutely ruined my towels no matter how much I washed my hair. 7/2/24 ** UPDATE ** 4⭐️ Okay Idk if it takes being out in the sun for the sun to highlight it or what but it has brightened up a couple shades. It's still light brown though instead of honey. (I wanted that #27-#30ish ginger looking strawberry blonde; like bleaching from black before toning the orange completely out. This dye has my hair at a light #6? A sandy brown; closer to my natural hair color but I wanted it lighter.) Now that it has brightened up from a week ago, my grays are starting to show up again. 2⭐️ I'm not sure if it's the adding of the oil or what but my hair is naturally brunette (ashy dark brown). This only lifted it to light brown. Not blonde. Not even ginger. Idk, I usually use another box dye and it lifts it quicker and lighter. PRO is that it does smell good and blended my stray grays; plus it says it's permanent. CONS more expensive for less product; didn't lighten as much as other honey blonde box dyes. I just lightened it two days ago (6/24/24) and it hasn't brightened up any. Going to come back to update if it fades or how soon I have to retouch. ... show more

I've colored my hair for many years and have tried several different brands of at home hair color. I have found Garnier Hair Color Nutrisse Nourishing Creme to be the best one out there. It doesn't dry out my hair and the color has never faded. The instructions are easy to follow and if I do accidently splatter a little bit on the counter it wipes off and hasn't ever stained my cream colored bathroom counter-top. The conditioner they send with the hair color last about 4 hair washes for me and it really helps my hair stay hydrated and tangle-free.
