  • Great Concept, Doesn't fit (read detailed review)
Critical dimensional information for those who don't want to read this long review (also, see images): Sleeve ID: Approx. 0.4280" (10.87mm) <--this is the correct inside diameter to fit most USA roller stems Sleeve Wall thickness: Varied from 0.019" to 0.025" (0.48mm to 0.64mm) Sleeve OD: Approx. 0.4715" (11.98mm) <-- this OD is too large to fit inside most USA garage hinge brackets For most USA applications, the ideal sleeve OD should be no more than 0.46" (11.68mm), whereas this product OD is 0.47". Disclaimer: Prior to purchasing these sleeves, I measured my garage door rollers as well as the garage door hinges that the rollers slide into. I then contacted the seller to request dimensional information for this product so that I could make a determination regarding whether or not these sleeves would be compatible with my garage door rollers and hinges. The seller was quick to respond to my questions, and after exchanging several messages with the seller, I was confident that these sleeves would NOT fit my garage door hardware. I informed the seller that I did not think these sleeves would be compatible based on the dimensions the seller provided to me. I also informed the seller that despite suspecting that these sleeves would NOT fit, I would order these sleeves regardless and actually try to install and use them as advertised. The seller responded that they would appreciate a review of their product, so here I am. I did not receive the product for free (I purchased 2 sets as I have 2 garage doors). At the time of writing this, I am not getting paid or otherwise compensated for this review. I am only giving 3 stars because the seller should put more effort into providing product specifications in their advertisement rather than relying on customers to perform that work for them. I am providing this review because there are several similar products on the market and none of those products contain the detailed dimensional information necessary for the consumer to determine if the product will actually fit their garage door hardware - so I am hoping this will encourage this seller and others to include critical dimensional information upfront. Now on to the review... There's nothing special or interesting about these sleeves. They appear to be thin-wall, extruded PE (polyethylene) that have been mechanically cut into short lengths. The tubes exhibit stress lines due to whatever cutting process is used to cut these tubes to length (from crushing of the tube during the cutting process - probably from large scissors or a mechanical shear). Regardless of these visual defects, the tubes are more or less uniformly cylindrical and are a consistent length. Polyethylene is flexible, so the crushing of the tubes doesn't affect this particular product for this particular application. The tubes appear (visual inspection) to have a uniform wall thickness, and based on my measurements are reasonably consistent in thickness. The tubes slide onto the roller stems effortlessly, however, as suspected the OD of the sleeve is too large to allow the roller stem to slide into the hinge bracket. I have attached pictures showing detailed measurements of the tubes as well as detailed measurements of my garage hardware. One measurement I did not confirm was the length of the tube as I did not find that to be an important detail. See pictures for the length of the tube in relation to the garage door roller. The attached images contain both inch and metric measurements. ... show more

  • garage door roller sleeves
These did not work out well for me, but that doesn't mean they won't for you. I want to cover some of the problems I found, and share the lessons learned. The formed sheet metal tubes within the door hinges that the roller stems slide into, are not very consistent in diameter. Because of this, I could only insert 3 full sleeves and 1 partial sleeve into the entire door. I only did one door. I could have forced some of them, but please read the next paragraph... Do not force the sleeves to fit if it would mean that the roller stems could not freely slide laterally within the formed tubes. I measured how much the roller stems protruded from the hinge tube with the door both open and closed. What I found is that the door rails along the ceiling are not exactly parallel, so the roller stems have to slide within those tubes to stay centered in the rail. My measurements indicated that the bottoms rollers don't have to move much, but the top rollers have to move as much as 1/4 inch. If they cannot move, it would place a lot of pressure sideways on the roller(s) and that would be destructive to the bearings and could possibly cause the door to fall in extreme cases. Please take this to heart. Also consider this movement when putting the retainer washers in place so that you are not restricting the movement. I had 2 stems that completely retreated within the tube and did not allow me to use washers at all. Yes, I have a tract house, maybe yours is built better. Incidentally, although there are 12 rollers on each door, only 10 of these rollers are inserted into formed tubes, as the bottom rollers are not attached into hinges. Hence these come in a package of 20 for two doors instead of 24 for the rollers. ... show more

  • They work but I had to mod a bit.
They were too small to fit the shaft of my rollers so I took some scissors and cut them down the length of the tube making a c all the way down. It worked just fine. They are more secure but are still free to float in and out. The end clip seems to still hold it in even though 30% is gone. Im happy with tbem. ... show more

  • What kind of garage door hinge do these fit?
I tried these on two different properties, with different garage doors. They do not fit inside hinge once you slide them over roller shaftL. Also tried sliding onto roller shaft while in hinge… won’t fit!!!

  • Sleeves really stops the rattling noise that used to happen during operation
The plastic sleeves remove all the play between the roller shaft and it’s mount! They fit tight and work as advertised. No more squeaks and rattling. Thanks!

  • 3 x 5" file cards work just as well and very easy to install
I thought about buying these but some reviews stated that the sleeves either didn't fit the spindle or the bore of the hinge. I used 3" x 5" heavy file cards and cut them in 1/2" wide strips and then slid them in place as i wiggled the door in the track. some hinges i was only able to get one shim in place but most i was able to slide two between the spindle and the bore. the main thing is to jiggle the door so that the tension is off the roller spindle and hinge as you slide them in place. made a hugh difference in the amount of noise the door made as it opened and closes. The duralast nylon rollers and bearings really helped but the spindles were rattling making alot of noise as well. Try it and see for yourself, it does work. ... show more
