  • Was once A+, now is F due to cheapened construction
Color: White
I have used Gamma2's seals for over ten years. I have purchased in total, approximately 100. Until recently, I recommended these to everyone. They were strong, durable, and effective. Recently, however, it appears that Gamma2 chose to modify its lid design. Many cracked at the very first tap of the rubber mallet. This is the same rubber mallet I've used to install all of my other Gamma2 seals over the past ten years, doing it the way that is recommended by Gamma2 themselves. The seals I received are very different from the ones I used to use. The plastic is brittle. The o-rings are loose. Screw-in tightening feels springy, instead of solid. And the whole set feels light - enough so that I took a new seal and one of my old Gamma2 seals to a scale and weighed them. The previous seals weigh in at 337 grams. The new ones are 295 grams. I suspect that if I took a micrometer to measure the thickness of the seal ring's plastic, it would also be thinner. To sum up, these are the problems evident in the lids I have purchased in 2020: - brittle plastic deforms easily and cracks when struck with mallet - lids do not stay sealed; "springy" light plastic means lids unseal themselves a few days later even after being tightly screwed in - orings are oversized and routinely fall out during regular use. ... show more

  • 2/4 lids Have a hole in the lid
Color: Black
I ordered three of these lids. One came with a factory deformity where there is a small hole in the top from the mold. I contacted gamma seal themselves and they told me I was out of luck and maybe amazon would help me. So I requested another product be sent out which I just received and to my amazement it had the exact same defect. 2/4 lids that leak on a so called “leak proof” design is very disappointing. They need to fix their machine, and the fact the manufacturer didnt wanna help me is disappointing. ... show more

  • Failed seals.
Color: Black
I have been a whitewater rafter for over a decade. During that time I have used a lot of gamma lids and buckets. I bought two new lids for a week long river trip at the end of September 2019. Both lid seals failed. One fell off and was way too loose to reinstall, the other dropped into the threads and was pinched and creased. Water entered both buckets and damaged a camera, ruined a charging unit, and soaked some clothes. Not sure why these lids are such garbage now, but I won't make the same mistake again. Don't trust them for waterproofing. They were good once, but no longer. ... show more

  • WARNING: Buyer beware!
Color: Black
Does not fit just any 3.5 to 7 gallon bucket. Word to the wise to any consumer buying this. Buy it in a package with a matched bucket or don't buy it at all. FYI: It does not fit a cheap Lowe's, Ace hardware, Walmart or Home Depot bucket. Believe me I've tried. It will fit a food grade bucket that I got from a friend in the restaurant business. ... show more

  • Poorly made, defects prevent airtight seal
Color: Black
The first negative was the smell. The ring has a very noxious odor which I presume will dissipate over time, but I have no idea how long that might be. I would not seal a bucket of food with one of these until it has fully gassed out. looking at the rings that attach to the bucket provided more disappointment. The ring's lip that should meet the underside of the rim of the removable piece has four spots that look like molding flash. Two of them are indents and the adjacent beveled surface which mates with the gasket is deformed, somewhat collapsing towards the flashing dimple. I don't know if that's enough to prevent a seal, though. The other two bit of flash are protrusions. One is fairly minor. The other is quite tall and sturdy. It also prevents the lid from spinning on enough to seal. Both the lids I received have exactly the same pattern of defects and neither one will provide a seal unless or until I remove that nub, which, as "simple" a job as it is, I don't anticipate will be so easy to do cleanly. It's also not something I feel I should have to do. I would not recommend buying these lids online. Go to a store where you can inspect them before purchase. ... show more

  • Not Airtight
Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. It's quite a tight fit getting the ring on the bucket. I see why other reviewers had cracking issues. With this much force on the ring, I could see cracks develop over time. My issue was with the sealing capability. I put water in the bucket and firmly screwed the lid on. Tipping the bucket up, water poured right out. So air will leak in/out too. You can see in the 2nd photo that the molding process causes bumps/bows in 4 places around the perimeter of the lid ring. I found another option that's simply a soft, pop-on lid that works better. ... show more

  • Leaks
Color: Black
Lid leaks water. Which means it leaks air. I'm not alone. Search online and through the questions here to find similar sentiments. There does not seem to be an easy fix. That being said, 2 stars instead of 1 star because any air exchange between inside and outside bucket is going to be relatively slow compared to an open bucket. So, the lid has some uses for me. ... show more
