Purchased this to replace an old 8 year old Foodsaver that died. I love it! We have a big garden and this is a must for us. The two settings for dry and for moist are great and I can control when it seals which is great for moist foods. It is convenient to have the machine feed the bag automatically, seal, and release it when ready. I did 4 quarts of applesauce last night as a test and it worked perfectly! Suction is perfect! Includes attachment for jars and bags... easy and convenient. The roll holder also makes things simple because all you have to do is pull off the length, then use the inbuilt slicer to cut your bag to length. It automatically senses when the bag is where it needs to be and begins vacuuming. It releases it when it's done... this feature is especially great because of arthritis in my hands... no pressing down and snapping into place. I did a lot of research and decided on this because it handles liquids well. My advice would be don't try to go cheap-- I did that on my last one and had more fails than successes. When it did seal it didn't get all the air out and I ended up with a lot of freezer burn. Liquids were a nightmare as you needed to freeze them first. Ditto at with meat... the juices would suck out and have the same problem as liquids. This is my first FoodSaver and I LOVE it! It handles liquids, dry goods, and everything in between with no hassle. Did I mention how easy it is to slide the drawer open and remove the drip tray? Not that I've needed to clean it yet, as juices stay where they belong-- in the meat! It is so worth spending the extra money. ... show more

    • How Did I Do Without This Before?
My girlfriend got me hooked into learning how to cook and store food. The FoodSaver V4400 is so incredibly easy to use and makes vacuum sealing food a lot of fun. I always have breakfast and go through frozen hash browns and sausage quickly. However, the boxes they come in from the grocery store take up too much room in the freezer. The solution is this FoodSaver. I am able to store a lot more food with it being vacuum sealed. Using the V4400 is super easy. Cut the bag to the size you desire. Make sure you have about two or three inches of room at the top of the bag. Insert the bag filled with food into the FoodSaver. The vacuum locks the bag in place, takes out the air and seals it. Take said sealed bag and store it! I've been able to vacuum seal leftover pasta, soup, burger patties and more. We keep some for my dad when he visits. He takes home a care package of vacuum sealed delicious food and simply needs to heat it up. Very handy this FoodSaver! ... show more

    • Costs more, but it's way better!
In my initial foray into vacuum sealing meats, veggies, soups, etc. I purchased a less expensive type from another brand that flipped over the bag. It did the job, but often did not create a complete vacuum seal that didn't leave noticeable air. This version, while over $100 more than my previous one, offers significant benefits that made the investment worth it: it is very sturdy, creates a powerful vacuum that gets air out of the bags even around odd shapes like filled bell peppers, an easy to clean drip tray that pops out, bag dispenser built into it, a safe bag cutter built into it that works smoothly, no lid to force closed every time, and bag sealing is as simple as pushing the bag into the front of the device. This thing was REALLY worth the extra investment. The ONLY downside is that it wastes a little more of the roll than I'd prefer. I haven't measured it, but it seems like about an inch whereas with the flip top version I could seal pretty much right at the top if I wanted. I love this thing and would buy again. Am considering buying for friends, too. ... show more
