I have never used tailor's chalk in this format but I have to use a removable marking tool when I use vinyl/faux leather fabrics, and the markers can dry out quickly. I have the little chalk roller that deposits pieces of powdered chalk where you roll it but it can be hard to get it to come out consistently, and it's hard to see if the chalk is even depositing as I use it. The powdered chalk is also prone to brushing/blowing away without leaving the mark I need. On the other hand, these triangle chalks work great compared to the powdered chalk roller. The chalk pieces feel sturdy in my hand and I don't worry that they're going to crumble as I use them. It applies consistently to the fabric, and I can make it a lot darker if needed. I appreciate the different colors in the kit so there's a chalk with good contrast depending on the fabric color. Plus, because this is chalk, I can use water to wipe it off and not leave a permanent mark on the fabric. It also doesn't leave as much residue on my hand as I would have thought. I ordered a similar set of chalks several months back and they did not come in a compact storage case and I have hated how I have to figure out a way to store those without damaging them because the box they arrived in (thick cardstock like box lined with foam) is about 14" long and is a hassle to store. Not this set! The foam inside protects the chalk. The chalk itself works without issue and little pressure. Comes with a little flip out "knife" dealio that allows you to trim and sharpen manually. There is a sharpening blade included. The chalk is wrapped in bubble wrap and is intact. Installation/setup: Use to make marks on fabric for future sewing or alterations. Final thoughts: The chalks work great on tshirts, I used them to mark my shirts before folding and tying them for dying. The chalk washes out easily, but stays well, even with repeated rubbing and folding. I like this and I’m glad I got it. ⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend. ... show more

    • Inexpensive, okay for occasional use, more brittle than average.
I really wanted to like this chalk, but there are definitely some quality issues here. To begin with, the set arrived well packaged, but the pink chalk was still chipped all along one edge. And speaking of the packaging, the case is a little pointless. The sheer size and openness of it, requires me to store the chalks in the bubblewrap they were shipped in, as they just bash around in it otherwise and become even more damaged. In use, the chalk is just barely okay quality. It marks well and clearly, but it is also much more brittle than I am used to. It seems that whatever formula this company uses, it leaves out a lot of the wax or clay that make nicer sewing chalk more sturdy. At time of writing this tailors chalk set is listed at $5.99, which is a decent enough price. And I would that if it's only going to be a very occasional use thing, then it's fine. But if you are someone like me, who does a lot of sewing, and uses chalks like this frequently? Skip this. It's worth the few dollars more to get a higher quality product that will last and hold together better. ... show more

This is good chalk. The lines it leaves are crisp and it's very heavily pigmented so they show up bright and clear against the fabric. The triangle shape is more versatile than square or rectangular pieces, and the thumb grips in the center make it easy to hold in your hand. The chalk comes in a flat case that can fit all four pieces. For shipping, the chalk is tucked into some cushioning foam, although one of my pieces had a bunch of chips on one side anyway. Not really the manufacturer's fault, but be warned that you may have to do some tidying up after opening them! They also include a blade to sharpen the edges, which is a nice touch and adds to the longevity of the product. I do wish the case had actual compartments for the four pieces, as it doesn't close entirely with the foam inside, but without it the chalk can just slide around and hit the other pieces. I would also say that the product description's claim that the chalk marks can be "easily wiped off" is not true... I had to use soap and some light scrubbing with a baby toothbrush to get the marks out of the fabric I tested them on. This isn't necessarily a downside, as you generally don't want the marks brushing away easily when you are working on a project, but if you are looking for something that can be removed without washing this may not be the product for you. There's definitely cheaper products on the market, however. I do think the included sharpening blade does add some value, but maybe not quite enough to justify the price. ... show more

These are exactly as expected. They're four triangles of chalk in four different colors. They're a little brittle, but they mark well and clear and are easy to use and store. I will say, I was surprised to see a blade in the container. It's not unappreciated, but had this been ordered for a child or teen I would have been upset to see a sharp object in what was supposed to be just tailors chalk. So, parents, be warned, these come with a blade. The blade IS useful for sharpening the triangles, but it's not super necessary and was NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE IN THE LISTING. That's my only issue here. Other than that, these are a very useful addition to my sewing supplies. ... show more
