  • Great product for this newbie
During lockdown, my wife and I decided to take up quilting as a hobby/activity. Okay, actually she decided and I agreed to help is how it worked. But same result. We did all the research, she bought her quilting stuff, and I was the geometry guy and in charge of marking, cutting, and other prep. 6 quilts, 2 table runners, and a few pillows later, this is the result for this product: My first thought was to snap a [contractor's] chalk line on cloth to get my marks, but was quickly told this was not allowed in fabric stuff. So I did some research and it turns out that tailors use this method all the time. Who knew? So I picked this one, because.... nice colors. Turns out I make great choices on this product. Units came unbroken and kinda cool shapes. Reminds me of the inside of a Mazda rotary engine or maybe some a ninja throwing disc. But they fit the hand, and the nice smooth outside finish means no chalky hands. There's a lot of it here too, and as durable as this stuff is, my grandkids will at least get something out of my estate. Now on first use, I really wasn't all that please with this stuff. It has really hard and somewhat sharp edges, which made it really difficult to get a good mark on the first few lines that I drew. It turns out that is coated with a shellac or something. And the sharp edge kinda dug at the fabric. Not to be outdone by a piece of limestone, I reasoned that I should make some changes before giving up entirely. I took a wood rasp [you could use a fingernail file I suppose] and buffed down that sharp edge. It turns out it's a little softer inside and the outside edge is simply to stop it from breaking and rubbing off. Who knew? You only have to do this once on the rounded sides The wider rounded edge also made it easier on the fabric. Now it even works well on fabrics like flannel. BTW, I love flannel quilts for the kids. While I still kept the rounded shape on the sides, I also did leave the corners alone. It turns out that they are much better for marking stiff fabrics. Use the long sides for making long lines where you need a lot of color and use the harder sharper corners for marking my lengths on the tape measure so I can use the drywall T-square to mark for the cut. As a side note, they also need to carry this product over in construction products. I moved a couple of the lesser used colors out to my garage and they are a great alternative to a carpenter's pencil. Back out on the job, I've also had a couple guys from mason and tile crews buy a few of these things off me each for the price I paid for the whole box. They love these things. ... show more

  • great for upholstery
I do mostly marine upholstery and I find that chalk works the best for patterning and marking on the vinyl. I use the chalk wheels for the back of the vinyl and I use these for the front. Doesn't damage the vinyl, easy to mark easy to see and stays on for the perfect amount of time. I've used these on normal upholstery material as well and I just love them! Don't drop them though as they will shatter, ask me how I know! ... show more

One piece was broken.

  • Good quality
I was a little concerned about breakage during shipping, but they're packed in a little corrugated cardboard box. All are intact. They're very thin and make great marks, I lined my black jeans in 1 pic. They're like giant guitar picks. Very cool, will probably last me forever. (I don't sew daily or for a job). Would recommend. ... show more

  • Good stuff
Bought this to replace a different brand. These were more solid & even more importantly, they left a much more visible line. Will buy again.

  • Slips!
They serve their purpose, but do not fit your fingers properly when washing your face. They slip off your fingers from the soap.

  • Nice chalk for fabric
These are sturdy and produce clear markings. They are very easy to remove. They made my sewing project so much easier. I wish I would’ve known about these sooner. It truly beats the old fashion pencils that do not mark at all.

  • Tremendously helpful for marking material
Thrifty as I am, I’ve been using a small regular piece of chalk for marking my material before cutting. I finally broke down and bought this Tailor’s chalk and I’m glad I did. It makes my chalk lines more precise & so much thinner. The chalk colors work with a larger variety of fabrics. It either brushes or washes off. The box is going to last a LONG time, but I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again, if needed. ... show more
