  • Detailed Criteria - Stability, Size, Simplicity, Comfort, Adjustability, Long-Term Expectancy!
Style: Standard Bench
Specifically for the purposes of a home gym adjustable weight bench, I provide this a 5/5. I would probably place it about 4 or 4.5 if you intend to have more commercial use. The criteria for my decision include: Stability (5/5), Size (5/5 [6/5 if I could]), Simplicity (5/5), Comfort (5/5), Adjustability (4.5/5), Long-Term Expectancy (4.5/5) (Read further for details). I have been lifting for about 4 years now and have had experience with gym equipment from several facilities, both higher and lower end in quality. I am 5'5" and tend to stick between 143-148 lbs when I'm focused on my strength training while maintaining my cardio conditioning. I use this bench with adjustable dumbbells that can range from 2.5 - 100 lbs each (I have personally not capped over 80 lbs each). Stability: The stability of this contraption is evident from the moment you remove it from the box. Its welding is superb and trustworthy. It feels solid, and of what is already pre-assembled, well-tightened. Furthermore, I have been able to conduct body balance exercises off of nearly any part of this bench without a fear of it falling over or breaking. Thus far, it has displayed no sign of deteriorating on me from my workouts. Size: Well, the dimensions are provided to you, so it should come as no surprise. However, the fact that it can be folded... that is extremely size efficient. I measured its folded dimensions to be 50" High x 24" Wide x 10" Long. This is the primary reason for my size rating. Overall, it can take up a decent amount of exercise depending on the setting of your seat (will also be addressed further). The backrest is rather long and while I'm clearly not the tallest individual, it should be able to support people well above my height. The seat has a wide surface area that has not conflicted with exercises in which I would generally prefer a smaller seat. Furthermore, when I need to move this around the house, whether I choose to utilize the wheels or carry it, it is extremely light for a weight bench. Simplicity: The assembly was SIMPLE. I had to secure 5 separate screws. The bottom bars of the seat and backrest, and the leg bar. A total of 5 pieces secured: 4 of which are tightened with the provided wrench (2 per bar + spring and flat washers) and the last is the leg bar, which is screwed on with the knob attached to it. While I have mentioned the folding of this bench, I will mention it again with simplicity. Simplicity of transportation, storage, adjusting the incline/decline/flat status, and general placement; unbeatable. Also, the seat adjustment... also very simple with 3 advertised settings. Comfort: This is soft and sturdy. You can feel its reliability and do not feel pain developing in hard rear-end as a result. It feels form fitting and its wider surface area is helpful for that. Adjustability: Moving it from Incline to decline to flat to whichever way, you need only simply apply gentle pressure to raise the backrest, and move the support bar to the desired setting. As for the seat, you need only hold it steady, remove the pin, set the angle, and re-insert the pin. The leg bar, loosen and remove the knob, move to desired hole, re-secure. And again... Fold it up, roll it over to your preferred location for storage/space efficiency. Long-Term Expectancy: During my inspection, I felt skeptical of the stitching used to bind the fabric to the bench. I was able to simply pinch a couple strands that came flowing out. Since I have used it for about a week, this concerns me, but even with regular use, I expect that the stitching will only really become a problem no sooner than 9 months out. Overall, the bench will still hold out for years on years on years (or so I expect). Furthermore, the wheels on the backrest bar are rather small. They require accuracy to get the best roll and do not seem to be a priority of Fitness Reality. However, as I mentioned, should this be kept in house and well-maintained, the wheels are still better than no wheels at all and help this adjustable weight bench to earn my rating of 5/5 for home gym purposes!!! ... show more

  • Very Solid Piece of Equipment
Style: Standard Bench
I could not be happier with this product. First, the price was ridiculously good ($89); Second, the packaging was excellent, it came with zero issues inside; Third, the total time to unpackage, put together and cleanup is about 20 minutes (4 carriage bolts for the two leg stands and a bolt for the foot peg, that is it; no tools required because they are part of the packaging; Fourth, the bench is solidly constructed, and very easy to use and move around. The wheels on the "head" end of the bench are weak but better than not having any. I have carpeting so maybe they work better on hardwood. One of my main user issues for buying this particular bench is the fact that the backrest has a 90 degree position, a requirement from my wife for some of the exercises that she does. As far as the common three or four slightly negative things that I read from reviews before I bought this; many people complained about a blemish on the seat that had to be cleaned with WD-40; (if it existed) was not present on my product; and second, there is a spot/bracket on the incline that seems to be missing. I am not sure why......one more bracket ($5) would have prevented this. See my last picture and it shows the incline brackets; there is an obviously bigger gap between the two bottom brackets and the top three. It is not a big deal but the position that cannot be obtained might be the one that the user wants, as another reviewer mentioned. He/She solved the issue using a hand made block of wood and placed it in the lower bracket where the gap is and it solved his issue . Do not let this prevent you from buying this bench. I just wanted to mention it because it is there, and can be dealt with. The bench is capable of six positions, one in decline, flat, and four inclined (7 positions if you make the wooden block mentioned above). Another complaint that I read was that the bench was not exactly level in the flat position, that it has a slight decline. This is true to an extent. The front of the bench has an adjustment pin to place the height of the fixed seat in a slightly different position. The position that lifts the seat up about 1-2 inches, causes the flat bench position to be slightly declined. The seat positioned that is the lower position allows for a perfectly level flat bench. I checked this with a carpenter level like many other reviews did. Those reviews unfairly represented this issue (in my humble opinion) because they did not mention the ability to change the angle of the front leg (see video on Amazon website) which lowers the front slightly, providing a perfectly level flat bench. Another plus, this bench is 2 inches lower (18" from the floor) than the one that I am replacing (20"). This makes it easier to pick up dumbbells off the floor while sitting on the bench. The only other minor issue is the lack of thick padding on the foot peg, which can be easily fixed (as another reviewer stated) by adding some black foam pipe insulation that can bought at Lowes or Home Depot. I hope you all enjoyed this review. I spent this time because I am very satisfied will all aspect of this product and I recommend you buy it. Look no further for an inclined weight bench for medium duty workouts. Heavy duty being over 500 lbs, in my opinion. ... show more

  • Excellent stable bench... but
Style: Standard Bench
I've had the bench for a month now and I am happy to report on the following key elements: 1. Stability - the bench is very stable, it does not rock, tilt, or sway in any way, it is solid. 2. Comfort - the bench is very comfortable and allows for great workouts in multiple positions - Flat, incline, decline. Importantly, I am 5'9" 175, so a person 6'2" and above might have a different take on the comfort, especially when using the leg stabilizers. They leg stabilizers are undersized (in my opinion) for people larger than me. Nevertheless, they work well and are adjustable. 3. Cost - I bought my bench new for $119 and feel that was an amazing price for the quality of the product. In that regard I couldn't be happier, and would do it again in a heart beat. 4. Butt gap - The only negative I have to report (which dropped it to 4 stars) is that there is a significant gap between the seat and the backrest. This has been reported by others as well, and, to be fair, is true of a lot of benches on the market. I use a rolled up towel to fill the gap and that is working for me, but the manufacturers should design an insert to sell as an accessory, if nothing else, to fill in the gap when using the bench in the flat or decline position for comfort. Bottom line is that I am completely satisfied with the bench and would buy it again. ... show more
