  • Seriously the best of the 4 e-scooters we've tried.
Style: EC8 Black (18 Miles 350W)
We've tried 4 total e-scooters over the past few weeks as we've been having a lot of outdoor time with the kids and wanted to find the best e-scooter option we could, and this one is hands down the best of all of them. We tried a budget option that was okay but kind of slow even downhill (and it eventually even got removed from Amazon's site which was weird), and then we tried a 300W scooter with a mobile app and a bunch of other supporting features that was pretty cool, but even that one wasn't super fast and could only go 14MPH downhill which isn't very fast. After the 300W scooter we tried this scooter, and boy it was so much faster than all the others we'd tried up until now. It didn't have some of the fancier features like a mobile app and things like that, but the speed of this scooter and the absolutely awesome-performing disc brakes on this made it easily the best scooter we'd tried so far. Lastly, we tried a $600 700W scooter that was nice but was pretty expensive for what you got. Like it did go faster than this scooter, but for $300+ extra it was absolutely not as fast or powerful as we wanted it to be. I've seriously driven 10+ miles on each of these e-scooters, and I have to say I think this one is easily the best of all of them. It's the best price, absolutely fast and powerful enough to go uphill and/or drive very quickly, and the very solid disc brakes make this hands down the best of all of them. One thing to note here, I'm 6' 4", 270lbs, but my wife is 5' 1' and 140ish pounds, so between the both of us we have very different experiences across all of these scooters. All of these scooters (yes even the 700W scooter) struggle to get me uphill at anything above like 10 degree incline, but for her on any of these scooters (even and especially this one) my wife can zip uphill on this with no issues at all at full speed. So just something to keep in mind, if you're anywhere around the 200lbs ish area, this scooter is going to be a spectacular budget option for you, and I highly recommend it! But if you're like me and you're more in the 250lbs and up area, this scooter IS a good option too, and especially a great budget option, but you may want to look at spending a bit more to get a more powerful motor. While the 700W e-scooter we bought did cost double what this does, the overall experience of using it going uphill is still mostly better because it can go just a little bit faster or a little bit further before it gives up on steep hills, which is nice to have. That's just my two cents on it though. Overall I give this scooter an absolute 10/10, definitely recommend. Seriously, if you're looking for an e-scooter on a reasonable budget, do not miss out on this scooter, it's the best of all the scooters in this price range. ... show more

  • A fantastic entry level commuter scooter
Style: EC8 Gray (18 Miles 350W)
This e-scooter is hands down one of the coolest and one of the most helpful items I've ever reviewed. It's really made an immediate difference. Not only is it fun to use but it's great for running small errands around town. The scooter has many good qualities but it could do with some sort of locking mechanism and better switchology. The documentation is well written but notably neglects discussing actually operating the scooter and makes references to websites that do not exist. Fortunately is contactable over Amazon messaging service and provides excellent support. Set up is very easy. You basically just have to screw on the handlebars. All the tools are included to do this and I had no problem attaching it. From there you just need to charge it up. As a pleasant surprise the scooter also comes with a tool bag that can be attached either to the front side of the handlebars or the back. It's shaped in a way that when mounted on the back (facing towards you when riding) you can adjust its height so that it does not interfere with the folding mechanism. The folding mechanism is intuitive and easy to use. It latches securely. There's also a small latch on the handlebar that securely locks it against the rear fender. It's hard to gauge battery life but it does appear to be true to advertised. Obviously factors like wait, incline, and speed will make a difference. I typically use it on sport mode (the fastest and highest draining gear setting) and my rough off the cuff calculation based on GPS data what's the battery range on par with the advertised range maybe even a little better. The power adapter is not the most sophisticated but it gets the job done. As a fun experiment I was also able to charge the scooter off of a AC power adapter equipped power bank. The bike features various speed settings. From a very low power push assist to a maximum top speed sport mode. The documentation does not do a good job of explaining the speeds of each mode but because of the built-in speedometer you do get an idea of the speed level of each mode with a little bit of experimentation. But it would have been nice if they explained how the cruise control works. When turned on (it has memory so cruise control being on and off persists even after you turn off the scooter), after holding down the throttle on its maximum setting on each mode's top speed for several seconds cruise control activates. When I was researching e-scooter cruise control many lock in at the scooters current speed not at the mode's top speed. When cruise control automatically switches on (the setting can be disabled) the bike will beep. It'll automatically disengage if you hit the brakes. Switchology leaves a lot to be desired. It's a single button controlling everything. With different number of taps doing different functions. This is notable because one tap turns off and on the front light. It takes two taps to cycle through modes. When the unit is turned on it always defaults to the slowest push assist mode. So you always have to cycle through with double taps to get to the right mode when you turn on the device. It's also kind of awkward to use when you're currently riding. One really appreciated quality of life feature is turn signals and the pre-installed bell. They have been fantastic running errands around town. The turn signal activates a very loud beeping noise and activates lights on either the left or right side of the handlebar. But you should be aware that the tail caps are very fragile. I'm a part-time caregiver for my elderly parents. I've been using the scooter to run errands for them when I check in. They tipped it over when I was elsewhere and destroyed one of the turn signals. I contacted the brand through Amazon's messaging service and they were able to dispatch me replacement parts and send pictures on how to fix it. Really great service from the brand. I've made some additional modifications to the scooter. I've added a detachable basket which is really been quite helpful. You'll find that a lot of bike accessories will work with the handlebars. There is rear suspension which does make for a very smooth ride but I still wouldn't have minded beefier suspension. The marketing copy talks about how this can be used on outdoor surfaces and while I did test that it's mostly a road scooter. The unit is moderately on the heavy side, about the same as my commuter bike. But it folds up small and it's easy to maneuver. There is no lock function you have to jury rig your own lock. When researching I did see that some scooters at this price range have app controlled locks. I'm glad that this one does not. The last thing I want to do is install another app. But I wouldn't have minded a built-in keyed lock for extra security when running errands. But given the utility of this scooter I don't mind putting together my own lock setup. Obviously I did not pay for this unit, but having received it I feel like the price does reflect the quality level and utility. I would absolutely pay for another one if need be. ... show more
