I make artesian style bread and this is the best cast iron set to do this with. Use the lid as the base and the pot as the dome. It is the right size for a one pound loaf. It is easy to clean, it's as good as nonstick. The pot came preseasoned and easy to keep that nice coating. When I braise meat on the pot I can use the lid for pan roasting veggies. This is the best purchase ever! I use the lid as a skillet, often. Cast iron will last a forever! I've cooked roasts, steaks, bacon, and eggs in my new cast iron. Looking forward to replacing ALL my cookware with cast iron. Excellent even heat, no sticking problems, and very easy to use. It's perfect size to cook with for a small family. I got this as a began making sourdough bread. As a beginner this was suggested so because I like cast-iron I got this set and it turned out wonderful to use and even though I have two disabled thumbs I can manage it in and out the very hot oven. I having the lid on the bottom and using the top as a cover I get better rise out of my sourdough loaves. Of course we use this for all my needs for Dutch oven. I highly recommend this product. What I like most is this can be used over a fire or stove top. The cast iron has a gritty texture, distributes heat evenly, size is great for a big roast, stew, whole chicken, etc. The lid fits on top, but doesn't lock in place to the pot. This came with two silicone holders for the hot handles. Overall, the quality of the item seems alright. This isn't the same texture as the smoothness of a Lodge brand cast iron skillet. As long as the user seasons the pot, it should work just right for their cooking needs. Maybe I should scrub and season a few times to remove the gritty/sticky texture. ... show more

I've been using these for a while now and I'm definitely a fan. Cared for properly, these are quite reliable. They're fairly easy to clean for cast iron, and the ability to use the smaller pan as a lid is neat. They're a little smaller than I expected, but still very usable.

The surface of this pot is rough and porous, barely seasoned when it arrived. Not the same quality of the Lodge pan I have. I seasoned it once before baking sourdough in it, but still, the lid had tiny rust spots from the steam of the sourdough. I scrubbed them off and reseasoned the lid again. I have not had rusts since. I will not directly cook liquid food in this pot, but it is perfect for sourdough - heavy, good seal, and cheap (so I don't feel bad heating it repeatedly in the 500-degree oven). ... show more
