Description

An industry standard gets even better. We've reengineered the pedal that established our reputation for innovation and quality. Because innovation is part of our DNA we thought it was time for some major improvements. Most notably, the toe clamp. The 5000 needed more gripping strength, providing a stronger connection between the drummer and kick drum. So, we developed the Tri-Pivot Toe Clamp (U.S. Patent No. 8330032). Three independent 360 degree, rotating rubber pads firmly pinch almost any diameter and thickness bass drum counter hoop from the top and the bottom, with zero slippage. Add to that a new textured rubber grip pad on the base plate and we think you'll agree that there’s never been a better system for attaching a pedal to a bass drum. Last, but certainly not least, we wanted to improve on the smoothness and feel of the 5000, if that was even possible. To accomplish this, we added a Dual Bearing Spring Rocker, making the 5000 quicker and more responsive. The Accelerator (AD4) drive system offers an eccentric motion that creates an indirect relationship between the sprocket and the footboard, increasing the velocity of the pedal by shortening the length of the stroke. It is recommended for situations that require increased speed and sensitivity.

  • Smooth and fast
Nice heavy duty pedal that attaches to the bass drum very solidly. Very smooth and the accelerator cam really packs a punch.

  • Great Pedal even for light touch players
Over the years I have used the Camco, Speed King, Ghost etc. etc. and though I really liked the camco, it was showing its age (I bought it in 1980) and it was time for a change. I'm a light player, and when first using the 5000 pedal and had it at the out of the box settings I found the power but I just wasn't getting the finesse. I almost gave up on it but I really liked the way the accelerator gave the added punch for accents. I took the spring tension down almost to the point of the nut falling off, and replaced the stock beater (which turns out was too heavy for me) with a DW fly weight. What a difference! It gives me all the benefits of my camco plus the accelerator allows for accented notes with little to no extra effort. The other benefits are great too- attaches well to the bass drum rim with no marks, handy drum key. The only negative I have is that adjusting spring tension is a bit difficult while sitting at the kit. You need push down on the nut with one hand and then from below turn the other nut with the other hand. However, this is only an issue when you are working thru getting your settings to where you like it, once you're there this "negative" becomes a positive and holds your setting tight. If you're a light player don't let all the great stuff it does for heavy players turn you away. Buy it, you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • I cannot believe how much difference the Dual-Bearing Spring Rocker system adds to what I thought was already the near perfect p
OMG!!!! I had the previous version of this pedal before the redesign of 2013. Being a light hitter, I somehow still managed to break my previous version of this normally unbreakable tank...the bearings need replaced as well as a new cam, but I also needed an excuse to buy and try this one out anyway (will refurb my old pedal and keep it for a backup). I cannot believe how much difference the Dual-Bearing Spring Rocker system adds to what I thought was already the near perfect pedal. This simple design change has to be played/felt to be believed. Anything your heart thinks your foot should add/play, this unique design makes it just happen, and effortlessly. I thought it was going to be a useless feature, kind of like the DW 9000's bearings at way too many points (which made it unplayable for me). This altered bearing design taken from the 9000 works magic on the 5000. The Tri-Pivot Toe Clamp is also exactly what the Dr ordered with the only major glaring structural design flaw of the predecessor. It does level itself to the floor and grabs that bass drum like super glue. Where I have my drums the floor is uneven (1 piece of plywood is 1/4" lower than another in the shield where I play at church), and was always a problem with my old 5000. Not with this one, the pedal stays perfectly flat and centered. By the way, the drums are not the church's, they let me keep my babies there and play for the church, but I buy all my own gear. Finally, if you have an older version of this pedal, do yourself, your drums, your art and your passion a favor, get this pedal. Being a poor guy, this is a true statement...I would have paid approximately $50 dollars more for this fine instrument. DW did it again!! ... show more

Alot of subtle changes from the DW-500AD I bought 30 years ago. All for the better, I believe.

  • This is “the kick pedal.”
Absolutely the best pedal in this price range. The next best thing would be the 9000. I used to have an older 5000 single pedal. Sold it, haven’t owned a better pedal since. Finally bought another and DW improved it! Better chain, heel board, locking clamp, and structure. Just an awesome kick pedal. Fantastic response and ease. ... show more

  • GREAT PEDAL
This is the smoothest kick pedal I have ever used. I am a working professional musician. I always was an "Iron Cobra" guy... and don't get me wrong, it's great pedal... it's just that this pedal is better. Instant response, great feel and velocity. I was going to get the 9000, but the only real difference is that you can change it from off-set to centered cam. I auditioned both the turbo (centered) and the accelerator (offset) and really preferred the punch of the Accelerator. Why spend more for a feature you may not every use? If you like a less "aggressive" pedal, go for the Turbo... otherwise, THIS is your pedal! ... show more
