  • Like butter!
Love this pedal. Played a Tama Iron Cobra for over 20 years. It was a great pedal... but this is so smooth, stable and can be dialed in any way you want it. I love the long smooth foot boards. They are great for playing in socks or barefoot. It is silent. All moving parts are ball bearing. It has spikes on the back of the bass side pedal, front and back of the off side pedal. A rubber like material covers the entire bottom of both pedals. Rock solid, does NOT move on any surface. The tension adjustment can be made with your fingers and has a click to it. Easy to adjust and stays where you put it. The attention to fit and finish is outstanding. Sure it is a bit pricey, but for me worth every single penny. ... show more

  • What an upgrade!
I’m 69 and started drumming again 8 months ago after a 50 year break. I purchased a Roland V-Drum set and an Iron Cobra 200 double pedal. My skills are back and frankly better than ever simply because I practice relentlessly. I wanted a pedal upgrade and was looking at $1,000+ pedals when I came across the Yamaha’s and bit the less expensive bullet. Boy what a good purchase. Yes they are deluxe looking and totally solid, but it’s how they play that is important. And they play really well. The difference was immediate. My right foot played so much more confidently, more quickly, and just plain more smoothly. I am a hard hitter, and while I’m still working out my left foot I recommend these pedals without hesitation. They are smartly made and really stay put. Tension adjustments are a breeze, something you don’t appreciate until you have the luxury. These are worth every penny AND come with a very well made case. Don’t wait any longer. ... show more

  • My heel gets pinched in the pedal hinge, and it feels very heavy. Yamaha support no help.
I play barefoot at home, and my heel gets pinched in the pedal hinge. Yamaha support also has much to be desired. I bought it from Amazon Warehouse listed as used, so Yamaha denied me warranty support. All mine was missing was a screw and a washer from the driveshaft. They quoted me $160 for a joint rod assembly, which is one of the 3 pieces of the driveshaft. I tried out the pedals using a driveshaft from my Pearl twin chain double pedals. The Yamaha felt so much heavier and slower using the same beaters. I don't get the hype. The only good thing about the Yamaha is the ball bearing driveshaft but you can get a Trick Drums P1V6P Retrofit Driveshaft with ball bearings for $130, which is what I did for my Pearl double pedals. The Yamahas were definitely not an upgrade for me, and with support like that, I'll think twice before choosing anything Yamaha makes. ... show more

  • Yamaha Definitely Makes A Quality Pedal
Quality build and easy to assemble and change settings. Hitting fast and hard is not an issue. Comes with a travel bag, so, bonus! I know what you’re thinking. You’re saying it’s too expensive. Yeah, it’s a bit spendy, but there are some that cost WAY more. If you want a high end pedal set, without the $1k + price tag, this is one to consider. You can always look for one that’s been returned. You get it at an open box price, which can save two or three hundred. And FYI, that’s how I got mine. ... show more

  • Mixed feelings....
First off, I will say that for the money, these are the best thing out there. I won't go into what makes them great since there is plenty of comentary on that already. I want to touch on the one thing that makes these almost unusable, at least for me. The weak point for these seems to be that the pivot point at the rear of the footboard is very noisy in certain circumstances. For instance, when I do a heel-toe move, which causes a sort of a hard "slap" motion, there is a very loud metal "clank" sound that is very bothersome. There should not be ANY sound occurring like that. This pivot point, in a well engeineered pedal should be completely isolated, with no metal-on-metal noise potential. Therefore I think I cannot use these. I really, really, really, really, like these pedals otherwise and I want them to be the ultimate, but sadly there is a flaw. If not for this issue I would have easily given it 5 stars. Has anyone else experienced this? Update/Edit: Even though I did not buy the pedal brand new, (the pedal seems to be in "like new" condition though) I contacted Yamaha support to see if there could be a remedey, like installing new pivot bushings or something. I got quality one-on-one support almost immediately. The kicker, (pun intended) is even though I did not purchase the pedal new and it was not under warranty, Yamaha told me they would replace it with a brand new pedal! They said they were not aware of this issue before and they want to examine the pedal so they will be sending me a new one! Needless to say, with that, they have made a loyal cutomer for life! I have nothing bad to say about my experience and they certainly know how to stand behind their product. Well done Yamaha! I will edit further after I have a chance to use my new unit. ... show more

  • Finally smooth pedals!!
I tried out DW 9000 and 5000 and was not impressed. I got the Yamaha Direct drive version. OMG has these helped me. They are so easy to adjust with knobs that click. No more on my hands and knees trying to fiddle with tension springs. Yamaha put out a real winner here.

  • I wanted to love it…but I did not
I love Yamaha drums and hardware, so I was hoping to like this pedal as well, but I didn’t. I found it heavy, especially compared to other direct drive, and I don’t think the longboard is for me. The shaft is not great, the slave pedal lag was noticeable, and I know people are a fan of the spring tension adjustment, but it didn’t feel sturdy, it’s a piece of plastic rubbing against plastic. Overall I was disappointed, but it’s also a very personal opinion when it comes to pedals tbh ... show more

  • Excellent Pedals
Excellent pedals. Floorboards are nice and wide. Action is very smooth. Very easy to adjust, especially beater tension. Very easy to dial in on preferred settings. This appears to be very well designed and fabricated. Very high standard of quality workmanship. Nice looking too!
