I seldom write a review, but the Dimplex Electric Fireplace is worth my time. It came just in time for the holidays. Makes our family room so much more warm and inviting. It's very realistic, super easy to install, added enough heat to take the chill off the room, great fit in my fireplace. Replacing the battery in the little remote is kind of a pain. The batteries are more expensive than the regular battery, but it's a small concession for the beauty of the fireplace. In short, I love it and it is well worth the $$$! ... show more

    • Nice fireplace but has issues

First of all, the overall presentation is great; once you slot it in the wall, it looks good; and you will forgive the fact that it is very light and at times feels like you could bend the back plates just by pushing in a bit. The flame effect is great, and overall it is pleasant to look at, although it has issues. The first problem is related to the heat output: it takes a while to heat up a moderate size room; and of course you can't compare it much to the output of a real fireplace; so if you plan to use this fireplace as heat source for a large room, keep in mind that it will work as long as you are close to the opening, and the opening is located on the top front part of the unit. The second issue is the remote; or better, the fact that there are no controls on the actual device. If you break or lose the remote, you can't operate the device. Ironically my TV remote turn it on and off when I press the option/settings button for my tv; so I assume you can find a replacement for the remote; but it is a concern. I was expecting to find at least a couple of buttons on the unit, to be able to turn it on and off, turn the light on and off and turn the heat on and off, but there are none. So beware that there is no easy way to control this fireplace without the remote. ... show more

I have always had a fireplace or woodstove. I don't have one in my current house and am 70 yrs old. I realized I can't live without one! I got this one and love it! It keeps me warm, I can stand in front of it to warm my behind like I would a real fireplace. ; ) The flames are a bit 2 dimensional until you step away and they become more authentic looking. I installed it myself into a corner cabinet, needing just a bit of metal mesh on either side to hide the 2" spaces where it didn't fill out the distance. Just having the flames on without the heater is very comforting, oddly. I feared it would be tacky, but tech has come a long way. I also bought the crackle box, which was a waste of money. I had a set of dimplex logs w/heater for several years that heated up to 400 sq.ft. It started making noises so ordered this unit that said it warmed up to 1000 sq ft. Thought it would give off a little more heat...but seems much less than my old unit...& it was twice the price! I have central heat so only used it for extra warmth by my husband's chair! He said old set was so much better! So disappointed! ... show more

This is the most realistic looking electric fireplace insert I've seen. There is a 5 second or so repeat on the flames, but the overall effect is that there is a real fire going. It fit perfectly (with a couple of pavers underneath) into the firebox of a condo fireplace that would have needed extensive work to use safely. It cost more than most others, but we think it is well worth the difference. We are very pleased and would recommend it to anyone who asked. It hasn't seen enough use to comment on reliability, but I will revisit this if it becomes an issue. I am adding this after 6 months or so--We wanted to have the sounds of a fire to go with the fake display. I know that it sounds silly, but it does make a big difference. You probably have an unused cd player somewhere and there are pretty good recordings to be had. ... show more

I like the looks of the fireplace when its running. Looks pretty realistic for an electric fireplace. Installed pretty easily. Heat output is pretty good. But, it makes a lot of noise when running. Kind of a droning buzzing vibration noise. If I turn up the TV it kind of drowns it out, but if I just want to sit and read a book the noise is pretty annoying to the point of needing to turn it off. If I had it to do over, don't think I would buy this one. ... show more
