The necklaces are a soft leather-like material. You get a wonderful variety of pretty beads, my favorites are the different glass beads. This would make a great gift. A lot smaller than I thought this would be. On it's own, it is small yet good if you don't want to make a big commitment to jewelry making. This would be a good set for young kids to teens. The bag that is actually a box is cute, and good to carry the charms, beads, necklace strings in, as long as you don't mind the organized. There is a lot to like with this sweet jewelry making kit. Although I think it is a bit of a stretch to call it a unicorn/mermaid kit. There are 2 mermaid charms and 2 unicorn charms in the whole kit. Not a problem at all with all the other colorful enamel charms and spacers AND the silver charms and spacers. Unless you really want a lot of unicorns or mermaids that is. The 3 bracelets have extenders on them so they can fit a child or an adult, which is awesome. The lobster claw screws off so you can slip everything on then close it up so the charms and beads stay on. The 3 necklaces are made so that the charms or beads can just slip right on. I am very pleased to have this set in my box of things to have on hand for the grandkids or to be able to give as a gift. I think together we could make some fun jewelry and the bonus is that you can take it apart to make different creations… or add beads from another kit to it for a different look. It seems a bit expensive, but if you think of it in terms of less than 3 dollars for each made item, and it brings a lot of enjoyment…well that seems ok with me. ... show more

And for anyone who doesn't know bracelet making is a staple in little girls childhood. I do believe these are a better quality than I had during childhood and some charms are more like pandora charms than beads which just makes it even better. She made and and her best friend similar bracelets and necklaces and they were both beyond excited. If you have a little girl or are looking for a gift for a little girl, this is perfect. Girls will love this little kit! Mermaids and unicorns combined in one kit is like a little piece of heaven. The list has 20 of each bead, pendant, charms plus three each necklace and bracelet chains.
