  • Loved it
Color: Purple
Live this! Easy to use, not to loud, very durable, I would use a regular screw driver to screw in the yarn feed. The screw driver provided didn’t work.

  • A Blessing
Color: Blue
I received this today and since I'm sick with a cold, so I decided to try this. It works fantastic. I have so many different skeins of yarn and no room to store them so I decided to make cakes for easier storage. I have a manual winder but it gets tough on the arm and the wrist. This is a game changer . The reason why I gave it a 4 is it is made kind of cheaply. ... show more

  • Know your set up
Color: Purple
The media could not be loaded. First - it works exactly as described. The parts are good quality. Very easy to put together. However, you need to know your crafting. My umbrella swift is an antique wood that has a few quirks. If you have a plastic swift where there's nothing to catch on it will be much smoother. It doesn't give you a lot of time to react to a snag, twist, or slub. I kept it pretty slow. I can't imagine how fast you would have to react at higher speeds. The buzzer isn't loud but it is insistent. I still worked it between my hands so I had a little bit time to react. ** I tried it with a slightly heavier weight yarn and the skein was much less twisted. Video shows it winding without intervention. I still had a lot of snags and interruptions, but much better than the red How much yarn are you balling? We have a few skeins every few months. If you have a small business where it's going to be used frequently, this is worth the investment. If you're like me, hand crank or nostpinne will probably suffice. As a disabled person with joint issues, I thought this would be helpful. Depending on the type of disability this might be much more useful! I would be really interested to see how this would come off a bobbin or Lazy Kate. Mine are currently packed for a renovation, but I will give it a try when I can. ... show more

  • Mostly decent yarn winder
Color: Blue
Note that there is a 10% coupon currently in effect. I’m new-ish to crocheting and totally new to knitting. I’m still figuring out what I actually need for the hobby versus what is a nice to have. A yarn winder squarely sits in the nice to have category, but I have to admit that it’s a very good nice to have. I like to pull the yarn end out of the center of the ball, and after awhile, the skein gets very loose and collapses in on itself. This yarn winder makes it easy to rewind the yarn into a tight cake. There were a couple issues at first, but I’ve been able to address them. First, the washer and screw that hold the winder together was loose. The winder would completely fall off in the middle of winding. After finding the right sized allen wrench, I was able to tighten the winder, and it hasn’t fallen off since. Also, the notches at the top of the winder don’t hold the yarn in place once you start winding. I now tape the end of the yarn down. It’s an annoying extra step. I wish the notches were narrower so that they would keep hold the yarn. I found that I had to fully tighten the tensioner to achieve a decently tight ball of yarn. Otherwise the balls were too loose for me. Finally, I wish that the yarn holder was narrower. Because it is fairly wide, even if you wind your yarn at the maximum tension, you lose some of the tension once you pull the wound yarn off the holder. All that said, I’m happy with the product. ... show more

  • This thing is a nightmare
Color: Purple
The picture is the single "cake" of yarn we were able to get out of this thing, every yarn but dishcloth cotton slid right out of the yarn holder and just looped lazily over the base of the thing. I’d hoped this would handle larger cakes of yarn than the one I have, but I’ll take splitting a skein into 2-3 cakes over fighting with this thing any day. The third star is literally me trying to give it credit for giving me at least one small malformed cake ... show more

  • Big cakes
Color: Purple
I was initially hesitant about whether this electric yarn ball winder could handle extra-large, one-pound skeins but it absolutely does! The first time I used it, I wound a one-pound skein with no issues at all. It also worked great for super bulky yarn, handling it just as smoothly. One thing to note: it’s best to stay nearby while it’s running. One of my skeins had a knot and when the knot reached the guide and couldn’t pass through, the machine stopped and made a whining sound to alert me. I simply turned it off, removed the knot from the guide, wound that small part by hand and restarted the winder to finish the job. This winder makes the process so much easier and saves time, you can multitask while it works, as long as you’re in the same room to handle any small issues. I really, really like it and highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Does the job, but build quality seems a little bit low.
Color: Purple
I was frustrated with this item out of the box. Some of the metal pieces arrived with the paint already chipped, and the included screwdriver didn’t work well for the included screws to attach the yarn tensioner to the body of the machine Once assembled with my own screwdriver, the instructions were clear and easy to understand, and I was able to make two yarn balls easily. It runs a little bit loud, but I don’t have any experience with other electric yarn ball winders. It was easy to adjust the tension and the yarn balls came out neat. When it ran into tangles in the yarn, it beeped and stopped itself, though I wish it would stop itself sooner. When I had to go in and manually detangle, I had to unwrap the yarn a little bit because it had started to pull the knotted part into the tensioner. The parts that I can see seem sturdy physically, so as long as the motor is able to hold up, it should be a reliable tool to have around for a while. I wish the tension arm removed as easily as the clamp part for storage, but instead it’s screwed on with screws I don’t want to risk losing. The orchid purple color is nice. ... show more

  • Large capacity
Color: Purple
This was a nice upgrade compared to the hand crank one I first got. The spool makes larger cakes and the tensioner is easy to adjust.
