  • Why did I wait so long?!
Color: Purple
LOVE this winder! Is it perfect? No, but it works well and even with it's issues it blows traditional ball winders out of the water. Pros: Easy to assemble and operate The clamp can go pretty wide meaning you will likely have somewhere you can use it in your house Come with all tools needed for assembly It winds FAST The plastic is lightweight but durable Cons: -The power button can be a little finicky. On mine, if I turn it all the way up it slows down, it has to be stopped at the right spot. -The spring on the guide needs more tension on it, the ball is bigger and slightly more delicate than it needs to be. If the yarn is not be fed straight up into the guide, the yarn will pop out. -The final ball is more "football" than "cake". If you want your ball to sit flat you will be disappointed. Even knowing the cons, I would buy the product again. The issues don't outweigh the saved time and price point for me. ... show more

  • Amazing upgrade!
Color: Purple
I've used a goodwill, semi broken spinner for years and I saw one tiktok of this E-spinner and I had to get it (it never occurred to me that one existed... Of course I spun all my new yarn right before buying this). She is amazing. You can do a full, normal skein of acrylic on this with plenty of space left. I haven't tried it on any of my wool blends, all I have right now are minis and chances are those won't cake up very well (they don't normally either). My only grip with this is the tension. The piece for tension is so loose, so the cakes end up being so big, fluffy, and they kind of unravel in weird spots. My suggesting is just getting a rubber band to increase pressure on the feeding yarn. You don't want too much or the machine thinks it's a jam. I found the perfect balance where my cakes come out tight and I don't really have to babysit the feeding yarn. I love that when a knot shows up, the machine recognizes there's too much tension and stops entirely so the motor doesn't burn. Most important, it's very pretty and purple and it's fun to look at :) ... show more

  • It makes neat yarn cakes which makes them easier to use and store.
Color: Purple
The thread tension knob does not stay in place while the yarn spinner runs. I had to hold the thing closed with our finger. Otherwise it works well .

  • Awesome time saver
Color: Purple
Like some others, I waited till this yarn winder went on sale to try it out. I've been meaning to buy a yarn winder for a while and when I saw this one reviewed by a crochet artist I follow, I thought this would be perfect. This yarn winder takes like 2-3 mins maybe to put together. It is super simple and straightforward to assemble and comes with a screwdriver and extra screw. As well as easy instructions. I have both Acrylic and Plush yarns and it works great for both. I say mostly hands off because sometimes the tension gets loose as the yarn skein gets smaller and it will start to wrap around the base and I have to unwind it a little bit. That is most likely a user issue, since I walk away from it to multitask sometimes. All around I am pretty happy with this product and recommend it if you are interested. It really is nice not having to wind yarn by hand lol. ... show more

  • It's great until it's not
Color: Purple
I have a large yarn collection and was making my arm fall off cranking cakes by hand for better storage. I figured electric winder would solve my issues, which this, well, partly has. I second other reviewer who mentioned that the winder works quite well with grippy yarns (think of cotton or wool) but quickly turns into a nightmare with acrylic. When the ball gets too large and you make the mistake of not keeping an eye on it to stop it the moment the yarn slips, you'll end up with a mess on the bobbin. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do the acrylics, but I've had slim luck so far. The machine itself is pretty quiet. Speedy-ish but not as quick as hand cranking if you're a speed demon like me. I understand that the machine stops itself automatically after about 4 minutes (annoying but whatever) and also stops if tension gets even a bit too high. I like my cakes pretty firm, so this is a huge downside for me. Also, frogging a project with this or using the winder on a fresh skein etc without having to pull the yarn loose by hand is kind of a no go. It kinda gets the job done, just at the cost of your time, effort and mental health. Update: I first gave it 3 stars. Bumped it down after it's taken me a hour and over six (!) Times stopping the machine to unravel the mess it made. Please pay for my therapy lol ... show more

  • Love!
Color: Blue
First, I’d like to start off by saying I do not leave reviews often. - I either like an item or I return it if it does not seem to work as described or to my liking. That being said, I am 100% leaving a review for this item because I LOVE it so much!!! I have no idea why I waited so long to make the decision to purchase this item. Works way better than hand winding yarn into a ball or even using the manual winder I have. Set up was quick and easy. Directions simple. I like that I can control the speed in which it spins and it can create a decent sized cake of yarn. Spring that helps hold yarn could be slightly tighter for more tension, but I’d still by this product again despite that (in fact I might buy another for my art classroom (I teach)). ... show more

  • Not worth it
Color: Blue
I got this one cause it was electric and not overpriced. It works fine if you are using a standard #4 worsted weight yarn, and sometimes it works well on a #3 or a light worsted weight yarn. If you are using anything smaller it kinda skips and messes up the cake, making it extremely hard to be able to pull out of the center as the yarn is not sitting in the cake right. If you are using anything thicker than a #4 weight yarn…you can’t. The winder simply cannot handle the thick of yarn. It also needs more tension, I am having it hold the yarn loosely between my fingers to be able to add extra tension, if not you cannot wind more than maybe 4oz at a time. ... show more
