I wanted to have my cigarette plug in my rear hatch have always on power for my electric cooler. That way when we shop or sightsee it stays on. The one with the car had a custom connector. This was a perfect fit and wired to the batter great with the ring terminals since the battery is also in the back. The secret is that the lighter is 2 pieces. Remove the black plastic by sliding it off the back then install it first then slide the actual lighter in through the plastic ring and it will fit great. Once I got the wiring right, these worked flawlessly. They installed super easily in my ‘98 T4R. i placed this just under the E-brake, on the back side of the little black change receptacle. This product arrived WITH visually obvious flaw which resulted in failure after 24 hours, I am camped way out on BLM Land for winter and fortunately I obtained pliers to cut out the in line fuse,reattached with proper male/female and rely on the fuse at the fuse box.     • Good unit but,,, old style glass fuses
This otherwise very good unit has hard to find in-line old style glass tube fuses. These may be a good choice for you if you are using them for fragile electronics but otherwise I would get something else with the standard modern 12v plug in fuses.

    • Not so snug!!
These do what I wanted but they seem to not be as snug as I’d like it be. Seems like when I hit bump or something it would knock what I had plugged in there out which is a hassle. But other than that there great.

    • It's decent, but easy to break
It was easy to install, but they're cheaply made, maybe I'm just too rough but both of them came apart when I tried using them, I glued it all back together with some gorilla glue and it's doing alright for now

This item was well packaged and arrived undamaged. The kit includes two sockets complete with wiring harnesses and integrated 10 amp fuse. There were no instructions included in the package. The wires are terminated with a slide on connector on one end, and round spade lugs on the other. Unfortunately, the wiring harness is constructed so that it can be connected backwards (IE: positive wire to the negative terminal). This would likely damage anything you plug into it if you happen to wire it backwards. For my installation, I removed the round lugs so that I could connect to the 12v wires that were already in place on my boat. The sockets will snap into place in and you need to be sure you are drilling the recommended hole size so that there's a snug fit. The ad recommends using a 1.18 inch hole for mounting, but does not mention the fact that you need a slot for the alignment tab on top of the socket (see photo). I had to use a file to cut out a slot for that tab before I could get the socket to go into the hole. I suspect the tab is to prevent the socket from rotating in it's mount spot, but there wasn't any mention of this in the ad. Once mounted, I used a voltmeter to confirm that it was properly connected with +12v on the center tab and Ground on the barrel. I then tested it with several chargers. They fit snugly and all worked as they should. For the price and the fact that you get 2 complete sockets, I found this item to be a good value. Just exercise caution when wiring, and remember you'll need to cut a small slot for the alignment tab. ... show more
