    • Great things come in tiny boxes!
When I saw the box for this item I would have bet the farm I got shipped the wrong item. Once I unboxed it knew I got the right item and it was a quality product! The only hard part about installing this was getting the padded hose clamp to start screwing into itself. That was most likely due to the location I was mounting it at. It was hard for me to see what I was doing. Once I got the clamp tightened up I just adjusted the swivel mechanism into positon for my phone. I really thought this thing was going to move around outof position, but after going a down a rough trail on my property the phone never moved! The phone I used in a Samsung Ultra S22 with the Otterbox case and the phone holder still had a little extra for a larger phone. Don't let the price scare you away. It’s really nice. Not going to lie I didn’t think it was going to fit my iPhone but the arms do spread apart far enough..they hold really tight you almost don’t need the rubber that is included but it is a good peace of mind it is holding it too. Especially if you drive your UTV aggressively.

This phone mount is more stable than other contraptions I’ve tried on my Kawasaki Mule. It is also relatively compact, so it doesn’t intrude on my head space when mounted in a “visor” position — I won’t bang into it and the phone remains visible but not blocking. The ball-and-socket arm locks up very snug, while providing the flexibility to quickly face the phone forward or backward, horizontal or vertical — for selfies or panoramas or GPS/mapping. The phone clamps (a spare is provided) offer two standard 1/4” threaded female connectors to allow other configurations, or mounting of an accessory. The clamp works sort of like a wooden clothespin. I found it a bit hard to grasp (physically and conceptually) where to squeeze to operate it once installed, as the small finger grips kind of blend into the ends of the clamp. The clamp does grip the phone firmly, and kept an iPhone13 in an Otterbox securely on a couple miles of rough road at medium speed. The rubber “spider” is kind of unhandy and obstructs screen and/or camera — but it might hang onto the phone better during extreme shocks/vibrations than the spring clamp. A screw clamp could be a better choice for security. An unfortunate design choice is the two thumb screws (at either end of the ball-and-socket arm) being only 3/4” in diameter — compared to a more conventional 1” to 1-1/4” diameter on every camera accessory, tripod, and selfie stick I own. The small diameter makes it very difficult to tighten the screws with enough force to avoid loosening — by vibration of movement, or when tweaking the phone into the exact position desired. Another shortcoming is the absence of a decent instruction sheet. Instead, there is a slip of paper with an apology for the useless little pictures and directions printed on the box: "Prepare all necessary items. Ensure you have a Phillips (cross head) screwdriver or even better is a 5/16” hex screwdriver…Choose your location…Tighten the parts…” Gee, thanks for all that. If you DIY this sort of project, 1) you will eventually figure it out, and 2) you have no doubt experienced the frustration of buttoning up a tight project in a tight space, only to take it all back apart after realizing…this part is upside down…there is insufficient clearance here...it would have worked better if I had known… Well, here you go again. You deserve better at this price point. On the bright side, you will probably like it once you’re locked down. ... show more

I have a Pure Watercraft Highfield 360 RIB (rigid inflatable boat) named the SaltyPup that I use for fishing, crabbing, or just having fun on the water. She's fast and a blast to drive, especially when there's a bit of a chop. I use my iPhone onboard for navigation, recording videos, marking fishing spots, etc. I've tried several ways to mount my phone, but I'm always worried it will fly off into the water when I hit a big bump or turn too sharply. One problem is that the diameter of the steering system tube is too large for most mounts, so when I saw the CamKix BarGrip, I was excited to try it. The BarGrip's advertised to mount phones onto the rollbar or cage of ATVs, UTVs and other off-road forms of fun. It can mount to tubes up to 2" in diameter and securely hold phones up to 3.3" wide. It's hard to predict how securely a mount will grip a phone, but the BarGrip has a rubber "phone belt" to keep the phone firmly attached for added peace of mind. The BarGrip arrived in an impossibly small box. The box also serves as a user manual of sorts, so hang onto it until you have everything installed and ready to go. The box also contained an extra phone holder and a note welcoming feedback on this first batch of mounts. I noticed a bit of black powder coating had worn off some of my kit. The scratch was manageable, but I emailed the company and was pleasantly surprised to get a response from the owner within the hour. I love getting that level of support from a vendor. Installing the BarGrip on my boat took less than five minutes. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver or a 5/16" hex nut driver. I used the hex and recommend this route if you can. Once I had everything in place, I loosely tightened the knob to try out different angles and positions. I then ensured everything was good and tight before climbing behind the wheel. It was too cold to do an on-the-water test, but I bounced around in the boat and tried to dislodge my phone by bumping into it with my hand. I am happy to report that the BarGrip held my phone in place better than anything I've tried to date. I've included some pictures of my setup and one showing the mounting hardware. My Kawasaki UTV literally has no place to mount a phone other than the roll cage, so I had been looking for something exactly like this. Overall, this mount is quite sturdy and holds my S22 Ultra securely. I still need to figure out the best way of routing a power cable all the way to this mount but that has nothing to do with the mount itself, which is excellent. ... show more
