  • A well-engineered product from Bissell. This is the one to buy!!
Bought this in Jan 2018 and assembled it but did not use it until today. The instructions are clearly written and once I used it the first time it became obvious that this unit is well engineered and quite easy to use. I shampooed an area of 5 feet by 15 feet and it took two fills of cleaning solution to do this. The unit is easy to maneuver and is well balanced. The supply and dirty water tanks lift on and off easily with a solid "feel"; nothing seems flimsy about the construction. I did the plain hot water 15 second clean at the end and did the machine cleaning maintenance as instructed in the manual. You do need to remove 3 Philips screws to remove the Brush Rolls covers, but the screws are machine screws that screw into brass bosses imbedded in the plastic base. In other words the screws can be removed repeatedly without fear of plastic threads stripping away. Yes, the carpet will be more damp than when cleaned by a truck-mounted professional carpet cleaner but this is to be expected since the machine uses hot tap water and not steam. I did measure my hot water temperature to be 140 degrees which is what is recommended. I have not used the portable feature where you remove the 'pod' from the base for use with stairs but you do remove the pod to do the cleaning maintenance as mentioned above and it removes with a simple pedal. I think I will use the flex hose attachment built onto the unit to clean the dog's recliner at some later date. In conclusion I am quite pleased to have purchased this machine and would recommend it even though I have only used it once. Sept 9, 2021: just finished a second day of using the Bissell. Just wanted to say that my initial review above is still valid and if you are thinking about getting one of these, don't hesitate. This is the one to buy. I have used it many times. Finally had an need for the built-in hand attachment and it works GREAT!! I have read some of the negative reviews and I feel there is some tendency to quibble about how it works. Let me tell you that it works great. Also, my initial feeling that the truck mounted steam cleaner leaving a drier carpet is not really true. If the steamer guy takes his time to really extract, then perhaps maybe so. With the Bissell I find that by simply doing four slow passes over the cleaned strip results in a carpet that dries quite quickly, certainly overnight. And we have berber carpeting. I have had to wait much longer with the truck mounted people because they are in such a hurry and don't spend time really extracting (sound familiar??). One final note: The brush roller cover that gets removed for cleaning developed a crack near the skinny end that went from side to side but not clear through which would make the Bissell unusable. I coated the crack with Duco cement and it worked fine for todays cleaning. I have ordered a replacement from Bissell and their support website was easy to use. ... show more

  • That the clean water is seperate from the dirt
Hi everyone!! I dont have any photos as off right now but i do want to say that i used to have a shampooer that was such an eyesore, didnt do a very good job, left the carpet soaked after going over it several times and the carpet just always looked so worn after, aswell that the dirty and clean water were not seperate! I couldnt find where to start and where to end. I got this vacume after thoroughly researching for the right one to fit my home and portable needs. It is a great light weight and easy to use shampooer and it comes with its on cleaning solution that works great. Just in my first room, i was able to allready see a difference in my carpets. After i had used this vacume and ran over the rug a few times, the floor was soaked and wet but definitely damp. Within an hour i would say my carpets were 90% dried. My carpets look and smell great and i am so excited to uze the shampooer in my car. This is why i wanted to have a dual shampooer. I bought 2 for the price of one and they store great. Good buy pet odor! And hellloo new carpets! ... show more

  • No Rug Doctor, small tanks, but still pretty good
If you don't mind the small tank size, this does a pretty darn good job of cleaning carpet. The household has been neglecting the carpet. We replaced the downstairs with laminate (finally) but the upstairs is still carpeted and getting grungy. I was dancing around dark spots in the hallway. Got sick of it and didn't want to sink $50 for a Rug Doctor rental, so the logical thing was to spend four times that amount and get a carpet cleaner to own, right? Got this Bissell because someone reviewed a Hoover I was lookign at and pointed out there were metal parts that rusted with use. Doesn't make sense to me why you would have un-galvanized metal in an appliance that deals exclusively with WATER but whatever... Hoover's poor design choice got me choosing this. Very simple machine. Came mostly assembled... all you have to do is bolt on the upper handle and it's good to go. The tanks are very small but whatevs... I can use the walking. Pretty easy to figure out and use. I really like how you can attach the brush to the hose and the edge attachment to the handle... it keeps everything together, so I'm not hunting for accessories if I need them. I also really like how this lifts off and becomes portable. By following instructions, I was able to clean about a 3' x 3' section of carpet before having to empty the dirty water tank and refilling the cleaning solution tank... which was pretty sad. I then resorted to just "pumping" the trigger so I wouldn't have to refill as often, and I was able to finish a carpet hallway with about 3-4 refills/dumps. Water was pretty filthy, so that's testimony to how well this thing cleans as well as how filthy my carpet was after almost a couple of years of not being cleaned in a house of cats and dogs. I want to emphasize that the tanks are very small. This means more walking back to your sink/toilet, dumping, and refilling. If the dirty water tank gets to the full mark, IT WILL NOT SUCK UP ANY MORE WATER. I was confused at first why I had to reseat the dirty water tank to get it to suck for a few seconds, but then I realized the full indicator line is pretty much just at the half-way mark of the tank. And the tank is already small to begin with. The side brushes do not rotate or do anything... they're great for sweeping the edge of carpet to hopefully clear it off. (I vacuumed and cleared the edges beforehand.) Haven't tested the hose attachment yet, but the stairs and landing are going to be the next things I'm going to attack. ... show more
