After doing research on suspension tools, I opted to get the large set. Never know when you'll need a piece. NOTE: this tool is a "puller" and "pusher". In other words, it pulls the ball joint out and then pushes it in. I had to use this on the bottom side of the lower arm to replace the joint. In order to do so, be sure to have the vehicle jacked up high enough to fit the tool. Use a hydraulic jack on the lower arm to control drop. Tool and pieces seem to be good quality. I didn't have any issues other than trying to use it to "press" the joint out (which I like better). The opening just isn't wide enough to put what you need together to make it work. I opted to cut the ball joint threaded piece with my cutoff wheel and then using the tool, added a deep impact socket of mine to make it work. When I did the other side, I just used the tool from the bottom and it worked just fine. I did put some never sieze on the threaded shaft just to make it easier to use. The adapters are in a blow molded case (very nice) but not marked as in the instruction manual (very weak). I intend on making labels to put the number above each piece and laminate a copy of hte manual (available online) and keep with the tool. Whether your an avid mechanic or just occasional garage junky that needs to do occasional suspension work, I don't think you'll go wrong. ... show more

  • Fantastic and strong kit once you figure out the right parts to use.
I bought this kit to use on a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K2500 4x4 3/4 ton (7.4L). I used this kit to press out and press in the ball joints on the forged lower control arms. I read the instructions but the parts the instructions said to use would not work. I ended up using parts #19, #4, and #3 to press in the ball joint - with the cap #4 on top of the arm with the screw pressing down on it pulling the #19 cup and ball joint lip up into position. . I used #19 and #3 with the screw pressing directly on the ball joint to press it out. I had the screw on top of the arm for both actions. The arm of the ball joint should slide down through part #3 in both instances and the bottom hole of the C frame allows it to pass through. I also used parts #19 and #3 to press the rubber boot up over the ball joint. I would recommend only using this kit with an impact driver and a #22 socket (fits the screw). I could not imagine trying to do this manually with a breaker bar. I would have given it 4 stars because of the poor instructions but once I figured out the puzzle, it worked great and the parts are very very strong. I am impressed with how great it worked. ... show more

  • Pretty good kit
Pretty good kit. Case arrived in larger than needed box and was damaged. I didn't bother sending it back. There does seem to be a couple duplicates and the press could be larger but a good value overall.

Durable, no bending or thread shred. Everything I could ask for in a ball joint press. The case was gray, so I feel a little lied to, but no real complaints.

What can I say it does what it should with no problems. For the price they are asking this is a win

  • Good tool, work well.
I used this tool to remove and reinstall the press-fit upper ball joints in my 1963 Thunderbird. There was no tweaking or bending of the clamp (as there seems to be with other sets) and the various cups and attachments seem well-made. I had no issues and the ball joints came out and went back in with very little effort. The instructions are a little light on details, particularly if your car isn't specifically covered, but it a little trial and error to get the best combo is all it takes. If you're looking for a decent set for a reasonable price - this is it - its overkill for me because I'll likely never need half the parts, but since I wasn't sure which combination I needed, I went with the bigger set. ... show more

  • Great buy!
I'm a professional technician. I was nervous about purchasing this at such a good price thinking it would not be good quality. It's a great product and I'm very happy with the heavy duty applications this kit can tackle. I only wished it came in a smaller case because it's very bulky.
