We got these knives as part of a kitchen equipment refresh to fill voids in our cutlery needs. Spent several days comparing different brands, sets and even finishes within the Astercook lines. Finally settled on this set after watching an unboxing video where I discovered these knives, despite how they may look in pictures, are solid metal and not a metal blade with a chrome plastic handle. Big points for all metal construction in my book! Used these knives to prepare Thanksgiving dinner (chef, santoku, peeling and pairing knives were used) and well... They are definitely sharp! I cut myself slightly within the first hour because I let my hand get to close to the blade while dicing potatoes - oops! These knives felt good in my hands, cut the food exceptionally well, and were well balanced while using them. As an added bonus you get to hear the metal twang you expect from quality metal blades when inserting or removing the knives from the block. You just don't get that work other cheap knife sets. these are excellent in every way, and thie "damascus" look is a bonus. i got this set for 60 when it was all done. so keep checking things in your completed orders and look for other discounts that ALWAYS happen after you purchase. the rest is up to you. the first time i purchased these they were 99, then 79 and finally 59. they knives are great, sharp and cut with ease no matter what youre cutting. ive knicked myself as well, and poked myself, you wont be able to avoid it. i wash them by hand and dry them with a microfiber towell immediately so i cant comment on rusting or spotting. i haved used the built-in sharpener on one knife because i wanted to test the sharpener and i could tell it did sharpen the blade. if you have misc knives all over the place, get a 15 or 21 pc set from astercook and you wont be disappointed. also check for their 6 pc (12 2/sleeves) and you can usually get a set for $20 with an additional 5 or 10 coupon, but they will have different coupons for different colors, so check until you find the $10 and see if you are ok with that color. these make great gifts, especially if you can get them for $10 after a coupon. i had my brother buy a set and he was amazed and pleased, and mad because he cut him self with the first use. LOL. astercook was one of five brands i purchased on amazon in a reasonable price range. im not sure how much better knives that cost $100 to $300 are compared to these, and frankly, i will probably never find out because these are so good. i hope this helps you make a decision. ... show more

I would not have bought these if they weren't on sale as it's just a little out of my price range but if you don't have a budget these are amazing! They cut great and have a cool design as well.
